It is no longer global warming because it isn't.

It is climate change because it does.

Men are never so likely to settle a question rightly as when they discuss it freely.

— Thomas B. Macaulay (1800-1859), Essay on Southey's Colloquies

All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

While parts of the US bake

While parts of the US baked in record setting heat in June 2012 and the American press were being hysterical other parts of the world were experiencing winter. Here is some perspective.

This reminds us that the heat wave is not global. They are  still shoveling snow in Anchorage.

It is winter in the southern hemisphere and it is cold there; sometimes it is record setting cold as in the Andes of Peru.

Crops in Argentina have been destroyed by early cold. Snowfall has been above normal.

Brazil is enjoying winter.

South Africa has been relishing the grip of winter. Winter can be deadly.

Christchurch in New Zealand experienced its coldest day in 130 years. Maybe the US should import some of their cold inducing CO2 to mitigate their heat wave.

Not to be outdone Australia experienced some chilly weather as well.

Look around the US. There were many record cold temperatures set at the same time that record highs were being reported. Ski resorts in Washington State are still open for business in July. Oregon State U. must have wondered if they moved to Alaska on June 23rd.

Germany had a cold start to June.

As did Sweden, the Netherlands and Finland.

Global cooling hysteria is not running rampant in these places. They understand the changing of the seasons.

Besides, our ancestors were diligent and wanted us to know what things were like when they were alive and duly recorded for posterity weather events that are available in electronically archived newspapers of yesteryear. The last two links above report on the concerns that people had about, wait for it, a warming world in 1922 and 1951. Fancy that. Since most of us were not alive in the 1930s we might not be aware of the heatwaves that annoyed the people back in the day. In Canada, where I come from, 1936 was not one we might want to relive. The US also experienced a tough year weather-wise in 1936. Kansas City was not a fun place for two weeks in the summer of 1980.

Chill people. Let us keep a balanced view. It should give us perspective. We live in a dynamic atmosphere with changing pressure systems. The weather changes. We should expect different?? Maybe on the moon. The sky is not falling. It is right where it has always been. We will not be playing golf in Greenland any time soon. We won't see an SI swimsuit issue for the South Pole in the near future. Despite the current US heat wave human fricassee is not on the Gaia menu. We will survive.

Take a deep breath. Stand on one leg and exhale slowly. No one will blow you up for polluting the atmosphere. Be thankful you were not at the South Pole on June 24th 2012 where the best heat sucking CO2 is located. Enjoy the day.

CO2 was exhaled during the creation of this post. No living thing was harmed. Some even liked it.
