It is no longer global warming because it isn't.

It is climate change because it does.

Men are never so likely to settle a question rightly as when they discuss it freely.

— Thomas B. Macaulay (1800-1859), Essay on Southey's Colloquies

All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

Is Extreme Weather Relly Becoming The New Normal?

The IPCC doesn’t think so. Read their SREX report.

A report on extreme weather has been put together by the folks at Climate Depot point Com (CD) which summarizes the latest peer reviewed research on extreme weather. You will find it under its Special Reports section.

There are organizations whose job it is to track, count, summarize and maintain historical records on extreme weather such as hurricanes, tornadoes, drought, forest fires, floods and snowstorms to mention a few. If you go to the CD report and check their sources you will find that almost all severe weather events have been on a downward trend for the last 30 to 60 years.

You can track forest fire occurrences at the National Interagency Fire Center to witness the downtrend. Smokey the Bear would be proud. This is a government agency funded by US taxpayers and not a private NGO funded by the oil industry. So far 2013 is among the quietest fire seasons on record. Go check the trend. Forest fires are down 15% worldwide.

You can find data on hurricanes at the US NOAA National Hurricane Center. Dr. Ryan Maue’s site brings you up to date info on hurricanes and provides graphical format for the data. The US has not been hit by a major(cat3+) hurricane in over 7 years. Florida has not been hit by a hurricane in over 7 years. Both of these are records for the longest period of absence in the data. Obama has faced only 3 hurricanes during his first term as president which is less than any other president in history. In 1886 there were 7 hurricanes that hit the US. It was the busiest season in US history. Australia has seen a 60% decrease in hurricanes making landfall. That study appeared in Climate Dynamics. Does this sound to you like hurricanes are becoming more frequent or more severe? Yes, they will cause more damage because there are more of us with more stuff to get in the way of a hurricane. But that has nothing to do with the amount of CO2 in the air. How come the article above didn’t mention any of this?

You can find trends on tornadoes at the US NOAA National Climatic Data Center. Tornadoes have been trending down since the 1950s. 2013 is a particularly slow year despite the two whoppers that hit Oklahoma in the spring.

The trends in drought and flood do not show an increasing trend. NOAA confirmed that the 2012 US drought was unrelated to climate change. A study of drought in the US southwest provides no evidence of an increase in its occurrence. Crop growth during the times of increasing atmospheric CO2 has not resulted in more crop failure contrary to prediction. Soy, rice, corn, wheat are all in bumper crop mode. Crop output has tripled over the last 50 years.

Floods in Europe have not seen an increase in frequency over time. Studies in Spain, France, Germany, UK, Switzerland and Italy show no increase in flood damage over the past contrary to expectations of Global Climate Models (GCMs). Floods are another fail of the CAGW narrative.

In short, extreme weather of any sort is not following the storyline of climate alarmists who tell us that severe weather will increase as CO2 growth in the atmosphere continues unabated. We are not seeing it. Mother Nature didn’t get their memo.

Can anybody point to a year when they think the weather was idyllic? At any time in any year for which we have records you will find that severe weather occurred somewhere. It was never all fluffy white clouds and gentle summer rain. We are not experiencing anything that is unusual or hasn’t occurred in the past when CO2 was at much lower levels. Seven landfalling hurricanes appeared in 1886 when CO2 was below 300 ppm. We now have almost 400 ppm. Will we get seven in 2013? NOAA expects only 6 to 9 hurricanes total this season(2013) whether they make landfall or not.

CAGW is when scientists treat regularly occurring weather as unusual. Mother Nature, once again, reveals herself to be a CAGW denier.

Climate Change Redefined - Again

It is no longer global warming because it isn’t. It is climate change because it does. But not in a way that is scary. Climate models are out of sync with what Mother Nature is doing. As Mother Nature has invalidated prediction after prediction she has invalidated the models. One of the predictions is that there is supposed to be a ‘hot spot’ most easily detectable 8-10 km up in the tropical troposphere. It has never been found. There have been many studies of the data that have been published in the peer reviewed literature but no ‘hot spot’ has ever been found.

The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't.
Kevin Trenberth, National Center For Atmospheric Research, USA

So Kevin Trenberth has redefined the global warming ‘hot spot’ to be a peripatetic area of warmth that will show up somewhere on the planet but is inherently unpredictable. The attempts to save the CAGW theory know no bounds and is taxing the ability of warmists to spin the climate to their advantage.

Hot here; cold there; heat distribution not so rare. When hasn’t it been the case that somewhere in the world, no matter what the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere, it will be unusually warm and somewhere else will be unusually cool. Isn’t that what we mean by the Earth in Balance?

But Kevin has forgotten the other side of the story. CO2 is supposed to be trapping the heat and making the whole world warmer. Yet, temperatures are not cooperating. Does CO2 only work in the summer time? Only works part time? Can’t find a full time job? How does CO2 ‘decide’ to trap heat in Russia in 2010, the US midwest in 2012, Britain in 2013? Does it hold a convention of CO2 molecules? Does it vacation in these areas? What turns it on from year to year? And why doesn’t the CO2 in the other parts of the world trap the heat? What is different about the CO2 that exists in the same concentration at the same latitude? Such speculation is nonsense.

Kevin needs a story to shore up the failing CAGW theory. What have they got on you Kevin, that you would sell your scientific soul to support a delusion?

Heat Waves have been a constant occurrence throughout time and CO2 concentrations. This is neither unusual nor catastrophic. It is the way our atmosphere behaves. As the IPCC pointed out in AR3 in 2001:

” … In climate research and modelling, we should recognise that we are dealing
with a coupled non-linear chaotic system, and therefore that the
long-term prediction of future climate states is not possible.”
From the 3rd IPCC report, Section 14.2 “The Climate System”, page 774.

This is not news Kevin. Meteorologists can tell you how difficult it is to know what the atmosphere is going to do next. It is pushed and pulled by hundreds of interacting factors

As University of London professor emeritus Philip Stott has noted: “The fundamental point has always been this. Climate change is governed by hundreds of factors, or variables, and the very idea that we can manage climate change predictably by understanding and manipulating at the margins one politically-selected factor (CO2), is as misguided as it gets.”

As climate model predictions continue to fail the CAGW myth is slowly becoming a thing of the past.

Mother Nature must be our court of last resort and she has declared herself to be a CAGW denier.

It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood. The truth has come out as we knew it would.

Fossil Fuels Are Poisonous

Well, they are according to well known authority: Ted Turner.

The only thing that is going to poison us are the stupid ideas of arrogant rich people who do not want to share the Earth with the rest of us.

Ted Turner, billionaire, founder of CNN and major UN donor, and large CO2 producer: “A total population of 250-300 million people, a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal.”

Any volunteers for self elimination to allay the problem, Ted?

Well, we know what the solution of the rich will be. They can get rid of the reason for 50% of the contribution to global warming by getting rid of the rest of us. Wouldn’t that be ideal?

Ted Turner, billionaire, founder of CNN and major UN donor, and large CO2 producer: "There are too many people, that's why we have global warming. We have global warming because too many people are using too much stuff."

Have you stopped using your stuff, Ted? Are you leading by example or is that only for poor people?

Ted Turner, billionaire, founder of CNN and major UN donor, and large CO2 producer:Global warming’ will kill most of us, and turn the rest of us into cannibals.”

Always wondered how a billionaire would taste.

Well, what is he complaining about? Global warming is a solution to his ‘too many people consuming too much stuff’ problem. Oh, I get it. He still wants to be able to consume his stuff without being eaten. A person filled with such misanthropy is to be feared. It wouldn’t take much to convince himself to agree with draconian policies designed to radically engage in pop redux. It’s for the good of the planet. Get a bunch of people of power together who share the same concerns and Hitler’s ‘final solution’ will look like a lovefest.

One wonders if Ted has been off-planet. He doesn’t seem to have gotten the memo from Mother Nature that the world hasn’t warmed for over 16 years. This should ease his worries about cannibalism.

If the world is not warming but CO2 is still accumulating in the atmosphere then the human burning of fossil fuels is not filling the air with poison. Phew, Ted. You worry for nothing. Let the fear in you subside. Apocalypse postponed for another day. We are livin’ the dream. Just another day in paradise. Where is the wild cheering in the streets? The world doesn’t need to be saved. The same cannot be said for delusional people. No amount of evidence will convince the fanatical zealot.

Mother Nature has fooled the experts again. Anyone can extend a trend. The real genius is the one who can predict a bend in the trend. The global climate models (GCMs) failed miserably at that task. Therefore they are invalidated as forecasters of future climate states. The failure means the experts do not know what they are talking about. They do not understand how the climate works. Pretending that they do is undermines their own credibility as well as the credibility of science in the eyes of the public.

The fears of the elite have been misplaced as they continue the search for an issue that can unite the planet in a march toward totalitarian rule.

Club of Rome: "In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill....All these dangers are caused by human intervention....and thus the “real enemy, then, is humanity itself....believe humanity requires a common motivation, namely a common adversary in order to realize world government. It does not matter if this common enemy is “a real one or….one invented for the purpose."

Back to the drawing board kids. Much as you might like it the world is not going to hell in a handbasket. Not from man made global warming anyway. We have met Pogo and he isn’t us.
=====================================================================
How about uniting for liberty? Freedom from the manmade fears of the misanthropic, self-serving elite hell bent on preserving the world’s resources for themselves.

Since CAGW has failed to scare the populace into surrendering their liberty how will they implement solutions to the overpopulation ‘problem’?

Ban effective pesticides as harmful.
Scare up fear of vaccines.
Defund research into disease cures.

Without Congressional Approval

Does Obama want to be a dictator? Is he being enabled by his colleagues in the ironically named Democratic Party? Because there is nothing remotely democratic about his ‘end around’ the duly elected representatives of the people who as it turns out could care less about climate change as an issue. Remind me why they were elected? Why did we bother with the expense of an election if the POTUS can just ignore them and do what he wants? Who cares about the will of the people. Government is all about Father Knows Best. There are more important things to accomplish without the restraints of an antiquated form of government. N. Korea has the right idea. The benevolent leadership of the Father. Sweep impediments out of the way. It is the new normal.

“Essentially, [Obama] said that it is time to act,” she said. “And he said he wasn’t going to wait for Congress, but that he had administrative authorities and that it was time to start utilizing those more effectively and in a more concerted way.”

but at the same time....

mixed messages....must have been asked a tough question...

So Obama the dictator is going to bypass the elected representatives of the people and use the EPA to implement his climate change agenda. So why don’t we just do away with the checks and balances of the American government and fire all members of the Congress? Why elect them if they are going to be bypassed by the executive branch. This is national subversion of the democratic process.

Hail, Obama! What is next? Are you going to confer with the leader of North Korea for advice on how best to suppress the opposition? Although, after your IRS harass the Republican campaign and the NSA national snooping and the bugging of journalists campaigns perhaps he should take lessons from you.

With this blatant disregard of the democratic process Obama is moving the US more and more toward a police state. With his blatant cronyism with respect to green energy subsidies he is legitimizing the move toward a National Socialist State.

How does he feel about Arnie’s tailpipe reference? Would he laugh too?

This man is dangerous and despite his oath to uphold the US Constitution he shows it nothing but disdain. America has lost its way.

Is there no one left in that country to stand for freedom and against government tyranny?

Obama is bringing 1984 from fiction to reality. Obama knows best.

Obama will enact measures which he will later claim have solved the problem of man made climate change because after his agenda is implemented he will suddenly recognize the truth of what skeptics of climate change have been saying all along: extreme weather is not increasing, temperatures are cooling, sea rise is slowing and the polar regions are not melting.
Government gains more control over the economy which makes firms go to it for approval of energy projects. This makes government a focal point for campaign contributions and drives the US more toward a political market for goods and services and away from one where supply and demand rule. Consumers are overruled. The bureaucratic mind replaces yours.

Government corporate welfare desperately needs to be stopped. Power must revert to the market and not reside in the hands of politicos. If government can’t hand out taxpayer money to companies then it can’t be accused of playing favorites which is the inevitable outcome of the current structure.

Climate change was never about the truth of the science. It was about the centralization of power in the hands of the few. CAGW is just a convenient path toward that end.

The weather is no worse now than it was in the past or will be in the future. It cycles because the climate changes continuously. It cycles. When Obama has implemented his climate change agenda the storms will still come, floods will still happen, some areas will experience drought and crop failure, temperatures will continue to go up and down, hurricanes and tornadoes won’t cease and destruction due to severe weather is inevitable. Nothing new under the sun.

Unless, of course, some scientists who foresee a new Little Ice Age on the horizon due to the sun’s lower activity prove correct. But Obama won’t care. He will be long gone from politics by then and would never admit he was wrong anyway.

I can’t help but think that the agenda is being pursued with relish at this point in time because the POTUS has realized that the argument cannot be won on scientific grounds so let’s just declare the science settled, the debate over and move on to solutions. Since Mother Nature is turning against them alarmists must act now to implement solutions so that credit can be claimed when the data become too obvious to deny any longer and then it will be OK to admit temperatures are declining, severe weather is not increasing etc because of their policies. They will look like heroes even though their solutions did nothing but make the rich richer and waste a lot of precious resources pursuing an imaginary problem.

How can you lose with a strategy like that? Obama will do this early in his second term so that by the time elections roll around people will have forgotten and been diverted to other issues. After all, the press fawns over the POTUS so he can define the crisis of the day, the focus of the moment to his advantage.  The POTUS has learned that the American Mainstream Media is like a puppy that learns to bring the leash to its master.

Obama looks bad only if CAGW is real and he does not act. He is seen as a chump.

If Obama acts and CAGW is real he wins whether his solutions solve the problem or not because he at least tried to do something.

If Obama acts and CAGW is not real he can always blame the scientists who have an incentive to manufacture a crisis for research funding. He acted on the best available understanding.

If CAGW is not real and he does not act it is not a story. No one will notice. He gets no political mileage out of inaction. The MSM won’t serenade him as a genius. If the MSM was advocating for action when none was needed they would have to admit error. They instead will drop it like a hot rock and will find some other crisis to delve into.

The incentive then is for the POTUS to act in a crisis whether the crisis is real or not. And so he does.

It is a political win-win. It is a perverse system with an inner bias toward action. Do something and spin it later. Just don’t sit there. It would take a leader of great character to resist the temptation to act when none is required. Sometimes the correct policy is no policy.

This is not Obama. He is right and that’s all folks. If you don’t like it, lump it. Arrogance has no trouble ignoring reality.

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts -- Bertrand Russell

Who Will Be The First To Go?

Rich people complain about the number of other people there are on the Earth. They claim the Earth can only support pick-a-number and we need to take measures to reduce the population to a more sustainable level. Too many people consuming too much stuff make the world too warm.

Ted Turner, billionaire, founder of CNN and major UN donor, and large CO2 producer: “A total population of 250-300 million people, a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal.”

Who made him God?

David Foreman, co-founder of Earth First!: “My three main goals would be to reduce human population to about 100 million worldwide, destroy the industrial infrastructure and see wilderness, with it’s full complement of species, returning throughout the world.”

A different reduction target even more draconian than Turner’s.

Club of Rome: "...the resultant ideal sustainable population is hence more than 500 million people but less than one billion."

Perhaps they realize how many rich people it takes to create 50% of global warming.

Jacques Cousteau, mega-celebrity French scientist: "In order to stabilize world population, we must eliminate 350,000 per day."

He doesn’t say what his target number is and he is dead now so we can’t find out.

UN Commission on Global Biodiversity Assessment: "A reasonable estimate for an industrialized world society at the present North American material standard of living would be 1 billion. At the more frugal European standard of living, 2 to 3 billion would be possible."

These people are more generous and only want to eliminate half of the current human population as long as we are all Europeans now. How nice of them.

We peons are the problem as rich people see it.

So who will be the first to go?

Ah, here is the problem right here. We can start pop redux with them.

What say you, Ted? Any volunteers?

Of course, the 500 million rich are the ones who will devise the plan of elimination and would you be surprised if they are not on the tailpipe list?

CAGW is a plan of the rich, by the rich and for the rich. The totalitarian rich take care of themselves first.
