It is no longer global warming because it isn't.

It is climate change because it does.

Men are never so likely to settle a question rightly as when they discuss it freely.

— Thomas B. Macaulay (1800-1859), Essay on Southey's Colloquies

All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

Watch what they do not what they say

Global warmists assure us that the Arctic and Antarctic are warming up faster than anywhere else on earth. The ice sheets are melting, sea levels are rising, we are doomed and all because soccer moms are driving around in vans.

Then we have the story about the US needing a bigger, faster, stronger icebreaker to plow through the Antarctic ice so they can keep their scientific camps operational. There was the need to send the Healy to Nome  in Alaska to accompany Russian supply ships and break through the ice to make sure Nomians would have enough fuel to last through the 2011-2012 winter.

Do you see the irony in these stories? Arctic is supposed to be melting at unprecedented rates and to be ice free by summer of 2012?

And they need a new, bigger, faster, stronger icebreaker? What for?

Kinda like the sinking-below-the-ocean-waves Maldives building resorts and airports to welcome and house all their expected tourists.

Or the Aussies building desalination plants because the rains won't return. People died needlessly in floods because of  political responses to a non-problem. Build dams, store water on land, watch life spread and the desert recede. Someone has blood on their hands down under.

It's no joke! Actions always speak louder than words. Some people are conning other people out of their funds and their lives.

CO2 doesn't like windstorms in the Netherlands

According to a paper published in Climatic Change: A 101 year record of windstorms in the Netherlands

Windstorms in the Netherlands are at a record low.

Conclusion: CO2 doesn't like to be blown around. The more CO2 there is in the atmosphere the less it gets blown around. What other explanation is possible? CO2 controls the weather don't you know?

CO2 is responsible for weather extremes. This is well known propaganda factual information backed up by mountains of research. We need to stop burning fossil fuels to prevent these weather extremes from getting much worse. We are near a tipping point and it is much worse than we feared.

The Lobster Crash

Remember the alternating studies that coffee was bad/good for you?

We tuned out. Figured 'scientists' didn't know what they were talking about.

Welcome to global warming and lobsters.

AGW is bad for lobsters. Lobsters don't like warmer waters.

AGW produces bigger lobsters? Lobsters like more CO2?

AGW produces lots of lobsters. So many that the price of lobsters has crashed. Lobsters like warmer waters.

Now which was more important: warmer waters or overfishing the predators?

Is this another predictive fail for AGW theorists?

Expect daily specials at Red Lobster soon.

Mann lives in a Model World

Penn State professor and leading climate scientist  Dr. Michael Mann says of the early summer heatwave in the US:
“There’s a context that this is occurring during an entire year of record breaking warmth in the U.S. and that this record breaking warmth is a pattern of long term warming of the entire globe.”

Except that the entire globe is not warming. The South Pole has been cooling for over 30 years. The South Pole on June 24, 2012 set an all time record low of -100.8F. Locations in the Southern Hemisphere are reporting record lows and heavy snow.

In the US while some places were having record warmth record lows were being recorded in Daytona and Orlando. The British Isles have been experiencing a wet and cold summer. There is still plenty of snow in the mountains of the western US and Canada  with ski resorts still open in July.

Kinda takes the GLOBAL out of global warming doesn't it? Some areas experience a heat wave; others shiver through a cold wave. The Earth in Balance. Mann does not know what he is talking about.

Furthermore, if Mann were to look at the temperature records for the US he would find that the 1930s set more record maximums than 2012.

The Heat Was On—Before Urbanization and Greenhouse Gases

Mann says that the ice sheets in Greenland and the Antarctic have already started to lose ice sooner than models predicted. "What that means is that is contributing to sea level rise at a rate beyond what we originally projected.  If we continue, we could be looking at two meters of sea level rise by the end of the century.” How can a 'leading climate scientist' not be up to date with the latest research in his own field. The Antarctic ice shelves are not disappearing. The Greenland ice sheet has been stable over the last two decades. So these large ice sheets are not contributing to sea level rise. They are not contributing to a sea level rise at a rate beyond what we originally projected. Two meters of sea level rise is not realistic. Recent research suggests sea level rise is decelerating. Four inches by 2100 is more realistic at current rates off rise.

Mann also says "it turns out that when the air is warmer it can hold more water vapor, so you actually get larger snowfall.  It’s consistent with what the climate change models project.”  Maybe they can hold more water vapor but are the relative humidity levels of the air increasing over time as would be expected if the CO2 climate model is correct? The models are wrong here too.

The above statements of Michael Mann do not conform the real world that he is living in. He is either delusional or incompetent or both. Perhaps he is describing another planet or the heat has gotten to him.

Mann lives in a model world where the models have been proven wrong time after time by the real world.

CO2 is not the demon he thinks it is. And yet he continues to deny the real world data. He is projecting his own denial onto others to protect his ego. This is not a Mann who can admit when he is wrong. It is unthinkable to him.

97% of Mann's statements on climate are bunk. They have reached a tipping point and are much worse than we thought.

CO2 has been exhaled during the creation of this post. No living thing was harmed. Some even liked it.

Heat causes Cold

According to the report, global warming created weather patterns which contributed to extreme severe weather events last year(2011) such as:

-The longest cold snap in North Korea since 1945

Now, how exactly did the heat trapping properties of CO2 manage to pull that off?

Have we gone through the looking glass?

The report is from NOAA for the year 2011 - "State of the Climate study that clearly connects 2011’s weather extremes to the dramatic increases in man-made greenhouse gases since the beginning of the Industrial Age."

"The temperature’s cooling, the power is back on in Washington, D.C., the fires are almost out in Colorado and they’ve almost cleaned up from the flooding in Florida. " You got it. Bob.

Crisis over as in the past. They come and they go. Bad weather years have been worse.

But here is another view from the report which lays the blame for the weird 2011 weather on the back to back La Nina conditions.

Let's be selective Bob and push our own agenda rather than trying to be informative.

Won't you see truth, Bill Berry

Won't you see truth.
We'll talk the whole night long.
We'll provide the links, Bill Berry, for you to click.
We know they've done you wrong.

Who are they? Why the MSM, of course.

Knowledgeably, Bill says:

" In response to the warmest spring on record and headed for the hottest year in history, deniers like Johnson remain steadfast in claiming these are natural cycles. OK, but during other cycles the Arctic ice cap wasn’t receding at a record pace and sea levels weren’t rising even more rapidly than scientists predicted. Glaciers are melting, forests are burning, crops are drying up in withering heat and drought, and weird “derecho” thunderstorms are killing people. But the deniers persist."

Wow, that was a mouthful. Chill, Bill! Maybe in Chile or Argentina?

Links added by yours truly from around the net. Gee, there seems to be some disagreement on the issue Bill? Don't you think? Maybe the debate is not over.

South Pole hit record low -100.8F on June 24, 2012. How did that happen in a world or increasing human induced fossil fuel burning CO2, a trace gas essential to life on Earth? Did the heat trapping CO2 at the South Pole decide to vacation in the US this summer? Did Amsterdam send its heat trapping CO2 to the US? How does that work, Bill? Hot here, cool there. The Earth in Balance.

Deniers persist because reality tells a different story than you just did. That's why they call themselves realists.

Global warming in 2012??

The mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work unless it's open.

All warming is local or regional. By corollary, so is cooling.

When it is warm in Washington it is cold in Daytona Beach. Seems backwards. How does CO2 do that?

When it is dry and hot in the US mid-west it is cold and rainy in the UK.

If it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere.

Heat balances itself out. Does it have something to do with energy conservation in the atmosphere?

Focus only on the heat if you have a political agenda. Ignore the cold.

Confirmation bias, yes.

Cognitive dissonance, no.

But, to be honest, both sets of data must be welcomed, entertained and explained to distil the truth.
Hot here. Cold there. Is that what is meant by "The Earth in Balance'? Energy balance.

When record cold temperatures are being set at the same time that record highs are being set it kind of takes the 'GLOBAL' out of global warming doesn't it?

Something else is going on.

How can CO2 simultaneously be responsible for record highs and record lows? If there is 'GLOBAL' warming shouldn't we be experiencing record highs everywhere as CO2 builds up in the atmosphere? Shouldn't winters everywhere be getting warmer with less snow? Remember Europe, Asia and Alaska in the winter of 2011-2012?

Why don't we? Does CO2 not 'work' in certain areas? Is it not present everywhere in the atmosphere?

Does CO2 suck heat out of the atmosphere as well as 'trap' it?

Does the CO2 at the South Pole not trap heat? Shouldn't it be setting record highs as CO2 is added to the atmosphere by our SUVs? Perhaps the US should import CO2 from Antarctica to cool its heatwave. /sarc

Could it be that the theory of AGW is - deep breath - wrong?
"In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill....All these dangers are caused by human intervention....and thus the “real enemy, then, is humanity itself....believe humanity requires a common motivation, namely a common adversary in order to realize world government. It does not matter if this common enemy is “a real one or….one invented for the purpose." ~ Club of Rome

One invented for the purpose...hmmm....

Easy to Sell Toles

Tom says: "...the record drought this year. You don’t even have to calibrate and assign the exact degree to which this particular dry spell is caused by our blanketing the earth with additional carbon dioxide for people to finally understand why a warming climate could be a “bad” thing."

Record drought Tom? How about the 1930s? When CO2 was much lower than it is now.

"..caused by our blanketing the earth with additional carbon dioxide"? How does that work? Exactly what is the mechanism?  Did the heat trapping CO2 from the Southern Hemisphere move north to congregate for a convention of the molecules in the US? Did the heat trapping CO2 vacate Alaska and move to the lower 48? Anchorage is still shoveling snow in July. Did the heat trapping CO2 from the South Pole which experienced a record LOW temperature of -100.8F vacation in the US this summer? -100.8F! Where's the BEEF? Kinda takes the GLOBAL out of global warming doesn't it?

"How about the record flooding in Japan?" Record flooding? Did he check? How about 1953? In 1953, the 1953 North Kyushu Flood killed 759 people. Or 1938? Is your name, Bill??  Like it hasn't happened before.

When weather extremes happen in the past when CO2 was lower than today and then they happen again today, logically, shouldn't we conclude that CO2 has nothing to do with it? Human induced CO2 AGW is a delusion.

And Tom ends with this: "Oh, and this just in." Glaciers calve icebergs when they are GROWING! In a warming world they are supposed to be receding. Your example UNDERCUTS your case. The Greenland Petermann glacier is a growing glacier. Same as Hubbard in Alaska. And others. It calved an iceberg in 2010 that was twice as big as the one recently launched this year. Bigger ones have broken off in the past. Some glaciers are growing; some are shrinking and some are cyclical in that regard.

Sometimes just looking out the window does not provide a GLOBAL perspective on climate. The internet is your window on the world. It is amazing what you can find out there. And yes, you do have to cross check. It seems that when there is a heat wave somewhere there is a cool wave somewhere else. The atmosphere seems to adjust like that. Perhaps that is what is meant by The Earth in Balance. GLOBAL warming is a delusion. All data must be taken into account. That is how truth is found.

Cold Wave

Antarctica is having a   wave. Does anybody care?

South Pole hits record low in June 2012.

Antarctica will soon be the only place to live - Dome C -107F

Antarctic ice shelves NOT disappearing. Hard to imagine why ice sheets would melt at these temperatures.

South Pole cooling over the last 30 years

Ice at South Pole keeps growing

Waters around Antarctica are NOT warming

Sea level rise miniscule at Antarctica's Argentine Island. But alarmists expect a rise of 200 feet.

Study Reveals Human CO2 Has Zero Impact On Antarctica Melting/Warming

New Coldest Day Record Reached At The Neumayer III station in Antarctica.

Let's go to Vostok. Bring your swim suit. Sometimes it gets darn cold there.

No CO2 impact in Antarctica

Antarctica threatened by AGW  Uh huh. In what millennium?

Maybe we can convince those heat trapping CO2 molecules to hold their next heatwave convention down there instead of Russia in 2010 or the US mid west and east in 2012.

United States total area: 3,794,083 square miles (including water) -- (9,826,630 sq km)

Antarctica is about 4.5 million square miles (14 million square kilometers) in area

So, assuming the correctness of those figures, what might we expect the temperature record for Antarctica to say if there were as many weather stations in Antarctica as there are in the USA(1218 reporting)?

Does Antarctica have cold waves the way the US has heatwaves? Could the number of record lows proportionally match the umber of record highs in the US?  We do not know. What impact would it have if that were the case? Would we be less worried about GLOBAL warming?

Antarctica's cold wave will continue until its tectonic plate decides to take a stroll toward the tropics.

Another Petermann Iceberg

On Monday July 16, 2012 an iceberg formed from the Peterman glacier just as it has in previous years. This one was half the size of the one that spawned in 2010.

Yawn!

Remember what happened to all the dire predictions about the one in 2010? Me either.

Follow its history? Me either. The MSM will announce the 2012 version with great fanfare as evidence of global warming and a melting Arctic. But....

We'll forget about this one too. And the world will go on.

Icebergs form and icebergs fade into obscurity unless they sink the Titanic. That was in 1912 when CO2 was a lot lower than it is today. How did that iceberg form? Warmer waters? What caused that?

In1935 there was a Russian ship in the ice free Arctic waters 500 miles from the North Pole. Must have been warm then too. In 1923 here were reports of glaciers disappearing and high Arctic temperatures. And CO2 was less than 350ppm at that time. So what caused the heat?

Last winter (2011/2012) Alaskans experienced so much cold and snow that there is talk of an exodus.

In April of 1939 Moscow was freezing and the Arctic was balmy. Definitely a sign of CO2 at work. Oh, wait! It was less than 350ppm at that time. Must have been something else.

Gee, how could that be? Maybe - deep breath - CO2 has nothing to do with the climate. What else can you conclude?

Oh, icebergs form when the glacier is growing from snowfall in the zone of accretion not receding from global warming. It breaks off from a growing glacier not a receding one. In a warming world glaciers are supposed to recede which would suggest a lower supply of icebergs.

Glaciers have been growing folks! Global warming is supposed to make them shrink.

Anchorage proves AGW has nothing to do with CO2

This Alaskan city is currently experiencing some cold weather after a particularly snowy record setting winter. It may experience its coldest July eveh. This occurred with CO2 at 396ppm.

Hat tip to Steven Goddard who keeps digging up these stories from the online electronic newspaper archives. In 1953, Anchorage was in the middle of a heat wave and reached 86F. This occurred when CO2 was below 350ppm.

And now Juneau has gotten into the act with record setting cold.Where is that heat trapping CO2 when you need it?

Can we conclude that CO2 has nothing to do with heat waves and cold spells?

Oh, that would mean that CAGW is a delusion.

Funny Things Happen on the Way to the Furnace

Climate Realists have a good story on meeting CO2 reduction targets in Scotland.

Apparently, Scotland was unable to meet its 2010 reduction targets because of cold weather.

Because Scotland experienced its coldest temperatures in 100 years in 2010 people had to heat their homes to keep warm. Cold temperatures with increasing CO2. How did that happen? Disconnect. Reality is telling us something here. Will we learn? Not holding my breath.

Even a 1.9% INCREASE in CO2 emissions was not enough to offset the cold weather. Scottish CO2 was not trapping enough heat to beat back the cold. Perhaps they need to import the variety in use in the North America this summer. It seems to be working really well. Smiley icon here.

Well, the people were not deluded by the anthropogenic global warming nonsense.

The politicians? Not so much. And don't think the cold will divert their attention away from trying to reduce CO2. No time to stop and think. Besides the consensus says....

Management of CO2 atmospheric concentrations is an inefficient means of temperature control. Fossil fuels do a better job of offsetting the temperature fluctuations of the weather. Once upon a time we called that progress, a higher standard of living, taming a hostile environment, making life more comfortable. Is that soon to be against the law?

CO2 has been exhaled during the creation of this post. No living thing was harmed. Some even liked it.

Increasing CO2 makes Mountain Climbing Safer

People who believe in AGW are becoming so desperate to convince others that the science is on their side that they are grasping at any weather related phenomenon to spin it in their favor. There have been several recent mountaineering deaths in various parts of the world in the late spring/early summer of 2012. Mont Blanc in the French Alps in July, Mt McKinley in Denali National Park in Alaska in June and Mt Everest  in May have all suffered fatalities during the 2012 climbing season.
The Mt McKinley Mountaineering summaries can be seen here. Yearly summaries are produced by Accidents in North American Mountaineering  published by the American Alpine Club. Summaries of fatalities on Mt McKinley from 1967 to 1992 here.

So, the point of this post is to point out that warmists often jump to conclusions without checking facts that are available as above. How do we know global warming is making it 'steadily riskier' for mtn climbers? Bill didn't check any stats.

Shock: Warmists may not have hard data to back up their claim that CO2 is making mountain climbing "steadily riskier"

NYTimes

Twitter / billmckibben
Global warming making things steadily riskier for mtn climbers--conditions have turned unpredictable http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/15/us/ …
Everest news - Mount Everest by climbers
[2003] Up to 1990 the Everest fatality rate is a whopping 37%, yet from 1990 until today the rate has dropped to 4.4%.

Stats for other Himalayan peaks can be found at the same source above.

Up until 1990, the Cho Oyu fatality rate was nearly 7%. But from 1990 until today, there have been 24 climbers who died, and about 1,236 summiteers. Thus the rate has lessened to about 2% – less than half of the modern Everest fatality rate of 4.4%.

Up until 1990, the Dhaulagiri fatality rate was 31%. But from 1990 until today, there have been 22 climbers who died, and 203 summiteers. Thus the rate diminished to 11% – still more than double the modern Everest fatality rate of 4.4%.

With an overall fatality rate of 40.77% and modern fatality rate decreased to 19.7%, Annapurna is statistically four times more dangerous than Everest today.

With an overall fatality rate of 21.67% and modern fatality rate decreased to 13.42%, Manaslu is statistically more dangerous than Everest today.

As we can see the rates for the Himalayan mountains have been decreasing. This makes some sense in that humans can learn and devise better climbing gear and take better precautions against the weather found on the mountain. Rescue methods would also have improved over time. However, it should be noted that an avalanche could bias the statistics upward for any one year if many climbers are caught in one.

So, is CO2 producing a 'higher level of energy' in the atmosphere? How is that measured? Where are the graphs? And how does the presence of heat trapping CO2, a trace gas essential to life on Earth, manage to generate both heat and cold in the mountains? Mountain climbing is a dangerous activity and people will lose their lives from time to time. But we are seeing the opposite effect. So can we conclude that more CO2 in the atmosphere leads to 'less risky' climbing?

By the logic of the warmist it seems so although it is my suspicion that in the world of mountain climbing there is no average day. You didn't know what you were going to get in the past any more than you do now. It is cold and snowy on the mountains of the world. Bad stuff will happen in such an inclement environment. It did in the past when CO2 was at lower concentrations and it is now. CO2 has nothing to do with it.

Fenton to Exxon CEO

Fenton letter to Exxon CEO

My comments in Italics.

Everyone knows the weather is changing.  When hasn't it been changing? That's why we invented weather forecasts.

"worst wildfires in western history are burning" - presumably this means the forest fires in Colorado? How about the one in 1871? Wasn't it worse?Forest Fires are not a thing of the past but they were more frequent in the past.

"1.5 million people are without power in Washington, D.C."  People there are always in the dark. They are mushrooms.

"Record high temperatures are being smashed weekly." Just as they were in Europe during the 2011-2012 winter.

"Obviously, this is only the beginning of this" The climate tends to be cyclical. It will end. It will begin again.

"As emissions keep rising, the earth will continue to warm" Don't think so. Temps in US have been on the decline for 15 years as they have elsewhere.

"the ice will melt" - it always does in the summer but... not to worry it is too cold in Greenland and Antarctica

"the coasts will be swamped" - do they wish for this? seven inches by 2100 won't prompt sale prices on coastal land

"storms will become ever more ferocious" - not happening. Nor will it. Florida has been hurricane free for - how long

" long lifetime of carbon in the atmosphere" - really?

"The path we are on will lead to the extinction of almost half the species on earth." - this guy really needs to do some research rather than just parrot the party line. you might think he has an agenda in mind.

His advice to Exxon: Here is your mistake: Exxon should get ahead of this issue.

Yes, it should. It should get on with the business of exploration and production of crude oil and forget about the catastrophe that will never be.

"Fossil fuel CEOs like you now control the thermostat of the earth." - pure delusion

He ends with a question:

"Once the glaciers start to move, they can't be stopped. Do you really want the blame for that?" Does he mean recede or advance? Glaciers do both due to local conditions. Here was a surprise!

Since CAGW is not happening it is a farce and a dangerous delusion. The world is safe. Nothing catastrophic is happening to the world's climate. Chill, people. Don't you notice that where there is heat elsewhere there is cold. Is that what is meant by The Earth in Balance? Self adaptation in the atmosphere. That's the real story that the MSM has totally missed in their errant pursuit of CAGW hysteria. Fear sells.

CAGW - Conning A Gullible World

Yet another IPCC Eyeopener

The IPCC has been exposed for the crappy science organization that it is before.

Here is another update on the IPCC that corroborates the above linked assessment.

The shonky 'science' of the IPCC continues to be exposed

What consensus? It is all an agenda driven sham.

Was it Aquinas who said: ask not who made the claim; ask whether or not the claim is true?

If we bring him into the 21st century we might expect him to add the following corollaries:

Ask not how many made the claim; ask if the claim is true.

And finally,

Ask not who funded the claim; ask instead if the claim is true.

In other words focus on the veracity of the claim. The rest is a red herring meant to divert attention from the claim. Or the truth?

Faking the Consensus

The untold story.

"The AGW consensus scam is one of the most astounding frauds in all of history, not only because it is patently false, but also because it is being used to propel the most sweeping and authoritarian scheme for global economic, social, and political regimentation the world has ever seen."

Let the Club of Rome explain.

It does not matter if this common enemy is “a real one or….one invented for the purpose."

They don't even care if the claims are true.   The goal is global governance. Get control of natural and human resources to direct them as we see fit.

"The goal now is a socialist, redistributionist society, which is nature's proper steward and society's only hope." ~ David Brower, founder of Sierra Club

Humans don't need to search for a cause to unite us. We have always had one. It is called disease, something that we all face. But these misanthropes don't want to extend people's lives. They want to eliminate people.

Again the Club of Rome speaks: "The Earth has cancer and the cancer is Man."

"For the planet’s sake, I hope we have bird flu or some other thing that will reduce the population, because otherwise we’re doomed." ~ Susan Blakemore, journalist

"I suspect that eradicating small pox was wrong. It played an important part in balancing ecosystems." ~ John Davis when editor of Earth First!

But they do not volunteer to be the sacrificial lambs to show us the way. They see themselves as part of the avant guarde required to shepherd the human species toward their version of Nirvana which doesn't include most of us.

"There are too many people, that's why we have global warming. We have global warming because too many people are using too much stuff." ~Ted Tuner, billionaire

These are not poor people who are selling this snake oil. Stop using any time Ted! Lead by example or don't expect us to listen.

Since there hasn’t been any catastrophic warming, much less catastrophic warming directly attributable to human activity, the impacts of CAGW are all in the models and the fevered imaginings of the fearmongers hooked on the gravy train of CAGW.

But the game is up. CAGW has been shown to be nonsense. There is no science to back it up but you must believe. It has been seen for what it is: Conning A Gullible World.

By the way, what consensus?

CO2 has been exhaled during the creation of this post. No living thing was harmed. Some even liked it.

Global Warming causes Logic Lapse

Four mountain climbers were killed when a "a wave of snow 80 stories tall crashed over them, snapping the rope that kept the group connected". Mountain climbing is a dangerous activity and these are not the first to lose their lives recently on the mountains of the world. The New York Times  (NYT) seems to think this is due to "a higher level of energy in the atmosphere from global warming."

Now as I understand it global warming is supposed to be caused by increased levels of CO2 in our atmosphere due to soccer moms driving mini-vans.

The NYT reported that "On McKinley, the snows this year have been prodigious". Now how did the snow get there in the first place? Did the heat-trapping gas, CO2, not do its job? Did it go south for the winter? Where did the cold come from that produced the snow? The LATimes reported that on Mt. McKinley "Winds howl up to 80 mph. Temperatures frequently dip below minus 40." Have I missed something? This does not sound like global warming to me. Kinda takes the GLOBAL out of global warming don't ya think?

So during the winter of 2011-2012 and on into the spring Mt. McKinley had a lot of snow. There was a particularly snowy, cold winter in the Alaska/Yukon area of North America. The Bering Sea had 150% more ice than normal.

And this was because all the heat trapping CO2 molecules congregated in the Eastern US where temperatures were milder than normal?

And the Gorebull award goes to....

Alarmists Hedging their Bets?

    • Scientists Blame Global Warming for Heat Wave, But Fail to Back It Up: Refused to identify any possible threshold: 'I honestly don't think you can really put a number right on it'

Warmists vs. Warmists! Running told Borenstein that to offer such an estimate is 'probably really dangerous for us,' instead clarifying that more analysis and 'statistical rigor' would need to be applied before the conclusions were sent out “into the public arena.” 'According to Hassol, question from Borenstein was not 'well-posed,' & stated that even the types of modeling necessary to determine attribution 'are not very good' at providing that conclusion'

      So they don't know!

Isn't that what skeptics have been saying all along?

Doesn't that make their predictions of what the world will be like in 2100 suspect?

      They don't know!

Realistically, how could they? They are not crystal balls or gods.

We are coming back to Earth in the climate wars. Rationality returns from its vacation in the alarmist camp. Reality has been forced to return by reality. Reality is not behaving as they predicted (would like) so they must execute CYA with back tracking on their godliness.

We are returning to treating weather as weather and climate (30 year trends) as climate which is their own definition. They escaped from the restraints of that definition whenever it was convenient to do so to further their POLITICAL AGENDA. So heatwaves return to the category of weather and we will look at and monitor the trend in heatwaves and compare current heat waves to past to examine their severity and frequency over time to see how the climate is changing.

As skeptics have already pointed out the heatwaves in the 1930s in the US were far worse than that of early summer 2012.

Chill, people. Heatwaves come and heatwaves go. Why? We don't really know.

But we have history. We can compare. Let's keep a proper perspective. The top ten years for daily maximums in the US do not include 2012 or any other year since the turn of the century. And the trend in daily maximums is down. See last link above. It was hotter in the past.

Most of us weren't alive then so we have to go to the history record books to discern that information. If we have an agenda to push then under our emotional drivers we might forget to check. If real world events seem to confirm our bias we can be led into dark alleys and get lost.

Alarmists need to check their premises.

Thunderstorms in Edmonton

For July 12, 2012.

So, you say?

It is a story about severe weather with nary a politically correct mention of or attribution to global warming.

How refreshing and accurate!

Like it has never happened in the history of Edmonton.

They had flash floods and hail too. It is just weather folks. It has happened before and will happen again.

Hopefully, people will not be as inconvenienced next time.

Unfortunately the Mont Blanc avalanche on July 2012 has claimed a number of lives with some people still missing.

Again, there was no attribution to anthropogenic global warming. Have we gone back to reporting weather related stories for what they are - human tragedies? Stuff happens without an evil human influence although some might question the wisdom of climbing a snow covered mountain in the summertime.

The Alps received a lot of snow this past winter and spring and it is hanging around for the summer.

Climate Change is a Fact

It is hard to argue with that statement which was made by Joel Achenbach of the Washington Post. My agreement can be seen in the title of my blog: Change is what the climate does. He also says "The spike in atmospheric CO2 is a fact." No argument there. Joel is worried about climate denialism  "and all other forms of anti-scientific thinking, and solution-deferring, and the covering of the eyes in hopes that it will create invisibility."

It leads him to make a statement that is in dispute.

"The dramatic high-latitude warming is a fact."

Not so fast.  A paper published in the Geophysical Research Letters in the Winter 2009/2010 issue challenges that view and reports "Northern Hemisphere winters have recently grown more extreme across the major industrialized centers," and reporting that "record cold snaps and heavy snowfall events across the United States, Europe and East Asia garnered much public attention during the winters of 2009/10 and 2010/11 (Blunden et al., 2011; Cohen et al., 2010)," with the latter set of researchers suggesting that "the occurrence of more severe Northern Hemisphere winter weather is a two-decade-long trend starting around 1988." We can now add the winter of 2011/2012 which was particularly harsh in Europe, Russia, Asia, Japan and Alaska.

How is this possible if the CAGW theory of human induced CO2 is correct? Did the CO2 take a vacation from these areas and head for warmer climes? Did they stop trapping heat? The eastern US and southern Ontario were warm last winter (2011/2012). Did the CO2 go there?

Another statement is laughable.

"Models show the greatest warming spike down the road still, decades hence." Models have been shown to be unreliable and to overestimate the contribution of CO2 to any warming that has occurred.  If they can't predict now then there is no reason to put any faith in their ability to right themselves in the future. Garbage In Garbage Out.

He tries to blame Chinese pollution for the 'pause' in the warming trend and seems unaware of this study.
"The warming trend has flattened out in the last decade but probably only because of air pollution from Chinese coal-fired power plants or some such forcing we haven’t fully discovered (smog is hardly the long-term solution we should be seeking)."

The following comes from the article: "the thermometer is stuck at 100 for two weeks and all-time temperature records have fallen in much of the country, and all this coming after a bizarrely winterless winter:"

Joel thinks that two weeks of 3 digit temperatures and the setting of all time temperature records is grounds for belief that global warming is real. However, it has happened before and when CO2 was at a lower level that it is now. History can make a fool out of you. The 1930s contained the most record high temperatures in the US. The trend for record setting high temperatures has been down since then.

Joel is a control freak and wants to micromanage other people. He fears other people's freedom.

"Seems to me it’s not the heat, it’s the temerity that’s our real problem – the temerity to think that we can go, quickly, from about a billion people to 7 billion, on our way to 9 billion, with dramatic increases in resource usage and energy consumption and carbon emissions and so on, without it having dramatic consequences for the planet."

Humans are the problem. CO2 is a cover for that secret belief.

"My suspicion (and others will recoil from this) is that the planet in the future will have to be managed the way you run a nuclear power plant – lots of engineers, risk assessors, government oversight, a public-private partnership of sorts, with a steady eye toward low-probability but high-consequence events. "

Micromanage. CO2 is a cover for that.

This isn’t the Thoreau view of nature, and it will incite objections from those who say we need to just pull back and stop putting so much stress on natural systems. But I think we need more science, more research, more engineering, more innovative solutions, and most of all more political leaders who understand that individual choice and free markets, though essential to modern society, by themselves will not protect the commons from long-term exploitation."

Freedom must be controlled.

The "anti-scientific thinking" and "the covering of the eyes in hopes that it will create invisibility." appear to be traits that Joel possesses. He is projecting his denialism onto those who do not share his views.

Or maybe the heat has gotten to him. It is summer after all.

Death Valley July 10, 1913 - 134F

Gee, there must have been a CO2 molecule convention there to create heat trapping of that magnitude.

CO2 congregated in Death Valley.

Oh wait, CO2 was only 305ppm in 1913 unlike today's 395ppm.

Gee, that must mean the temperature in Death Valley is much hotter now than in 1913. Wrong!

Death Valley, California
Current Conditions -  °F | °C
As of 5:52 PM on Tuesday 10 Jul 2012 (Local Time) from KDRA Reporting Station
Clear Clear   Feels Like: 107°

What is it with July 10th? In 1936 in Lincoln, Virginia it was 109F. The 1930s were particularly warm in the US.

It seems July 10th has another auspicious anniversary. It is the last day in the year 2005 that a hurricane made landfall in the Florida. And that is 2450 days - a milestone. The longest time in recorded history for such a benevolent occurrence. A record. Will that be reported by the LSM??

Perhaps CO2 molecules have forgotten how to create and direct a movie starring Hurri Cane to a theater near you. And yet there are more of them in the atmosphere because of all our nefarious activities like keeping warm in the winter, keeping cool in the summer, breathing, driving our SUVs, eating meat, using plastic bags, etc.

Perhaps they become more anemic as they congregate in higher numbers. Or maybe they have nothing to do with hurricanes.

But plants, crops and trees just like them a lot.

Who took the cookie from the cookie jar?

Climate skeptics, aka, climate realists have known for a long time that where there is heat in the world you will find cold somewhere else in the world.

Ying and yang. To and fro. Up and down.

The Earth in Balance and all that.

Realists have been having great fun with global warming alarmists for years as they try to educate the warmists with humor and logic in an attempt to point out the obvious fact that the troposphere that humans inhabit is constantly full of BOTH heat AND cold. Not a day goes by that temperatures don't vary from one time to another, from one place to another. We live in a dynamic atmosphere that is constantly changing.

With a little help from websites like Ice Age Now and Where's My Global Warming Dude? that report on the current cold areas of the earth, a balanced viewpoint is presented to the world. We are reminded that not only are there warm areas but there are regions of the planet that are experiencing cooler times.

The reality is that there are always warms areas on the Earth and cold regions. Even the last ICE AGE was not a global phenomenon. Somehow the Earth maintains a balance in its heat distribution.

Realists will keep pointing out the cognitive dissonance of cold to counteract the warmist confirmation bias of heat. Sooner or later they have to get it that you aren't going to get heat everywhere. The atmosphere does not work that way.

Besides, how are warmists going to explain the contrasting hot and cold areas in terms of an increasing concentration of CO2. Does CO2 rush to certain areas to trap the heat there thus leaving the vacated area to
cool off because it is now absent? Do we have any indication that CO2 congregates in the atmosphere like that? And how would CO2 'decide' to move to a particular area to trap heat? What is the mechanism? Does it hop a ride on the jet stream? This is speculative nonsense of course.

CO2 is a trace gas in the atmosphere (.039%). Is it realistic to say that such a trace gas is the thermostat controlling the world's climate? Isn't it more likely that CO2 has nothing to do with the temperature?

The warming the alarmists are trying to peddle is NOT global. It is not unprecedented, unequivocal, accelerating, anthropogenic and thus not catastrophic.

So who took the GLOBAL out of global warming?

Reality did.

The mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work unless it's open.

Looney Mooney

In his piece "The Politics of Ice and Fire" warmista Chris Mooney advocates taking advantage of the current US heatwave to take action on climate change because "public opinion on global warming follows the weather. It always does. Now, with the whole country wondering about the sweltering heat, about the wildfires and the derecho and the destruction, people are more than ready to hear that, yes, this is global warming, and yes, something has to be done about it."

Not everyone agrees. An official from the green Sierra Club said: “Most groups would say that until people’s lives have been restored, it is not necessarily in good taste to be using that as an opportunity,”

But the people behind 350.org have decided to take Chris at his word and do something about it. They are going to install "A 6-by-12 foot ice sculpture spelling out “HOAX?,” with the Capitol Dome in the background." The point is: it will disappear like the arguments have from climate deniers. Update: melting hoax cancelled.

And this is becuase CO2 has increased to 395ppm in 2012?

Then the ice wouldn't have melted in July-Aug 1930 in Washington when the CO2 concentration was below 350ppm? Temperatures then were running in the 90s and 100s.

The Mooneys are looney. They will prove that ice melts in July in Washington. And so?

Would the ice melt at the South Pole? Or would the 'HOAX?" sculpture be preserved as a reminder that Mother Nature took the GLOBAL out of global warming. Kind of reminds me of the Wendy's "Where's the BEEF?" commercial. Where is the GLOBAL in global warming? When one part of the atmosphere heats up another part cools off. The Earth in Balance.

Warmists are being dishonest by focusing their attention and yours only on that which supposedly supports their views on climate change as a crisis of human origin. They ignore contrary evidence. They have willfully blinded themselves to the facts and thus have created a delusion that must be defended at all costs. They are the DENIERS of evidence that is right in front of them. There are none so blind as those who will not see.

Who is to say if there would be as many cold records set  as hot ones in the US if we had as many stations reporting temperatures in Antarctica as there are in the US? We don't know because there aren't. Just one of the many gaps in our knowledge of the Earth's climate.

So how come it is hot in the US if their CO2 emissions have been going down? Isn't that a disconnect between fact and theory? Read my article: "Why are we not hearing about this?" for different look at US CO2 emissions.

Does the US have better heat trapping CO2 than other parts of the world? Perhaps the US should import CO2 from Antarctica to cool things off. It doesn't seem to trap heat very well down there.

Warmists are misanthropic opportunists peddling FEAR to advance an agenda. They want resource control and your wealth. And they will manipulate a situation to get it. Caveat emptor!

Why are we not hearing about this?

Despite Recent Warm Weather, U.S. Cooling Trend Persists Over Last 15 Years - A Minus 1.9°F Per Century Rate

Amazing Shale: US CO2 Emissions Plummet Towards 1990 Levels

Increase in CO2 absorption stun scientists

These three stories appear to tie CO2 and temperature together. Reduce CO2 emissions, increase absorption and reduce the temperature. Isn't this the desired result of the CAGW movement?

So why haven't the MSM made the connection?

This should have the alarmists cheering in the streets.

But they rage on about the 2012 early summer heatwave. It is the worst heat ever. Proof of global warming. Look out your window and see for yourself.

Chill, guys. It has happened before. The fact that most of you weren't alive in the 1930's doesn't mean that our ancestors weren't diligently recording for posterity their experiences with the weather of the day. And what do they tell us about the heat in the 1930s? Explore. Learn.

Man, it was hot back then. Hotter than now. Hotter when CO2 was at lower levels than now. Oops!

Kinda leads to the conclusion that CO2 has little effect on temperatures. Oh, horrors!

You guys are hysterically hysterical. The best comedy show in the media. Pass the popcorn!

You can't stand good news. You have been so conditioned by your profession to look for what sells - FEAR - that you miss the good news stories. US CO2 emissions are down. CO2 absorption up. US temps are down. You should be jumping for joy. And yet you are not.

Let the Club of Rome explain why.

It does not matter if this common enemy is “a real one or….one invented for the purpose."

There is an agenda that needs servicing. Bad news is required to unite us and make us submit to a new world order where the nasty western lifestyle of over consumption and wasteful use of resources is put under the control of the Philosopher Kings.  Who says it is wasteful and unsustainable? Why, the Philosopher Kings.

The MSM buy into this FEAR and act as their lapdogs in delivering the side helping of GUILT required to turn living, breathing, thinking human beings into lemmings. Chill, guys. Take a trip to the South Pole where the temperature recently hit -100.8F. Kinda takes the 'global' out of global warming doesn't it? The CO2 down there doesn't trap heat so well. Maybe they should import ours which is working real good right now!

On their 2012 trip to Antarctica, Al Gore and company didn't do a 24 hour bore-a-thon from the South Pole for a reason. People bundled in snowsuits surrounded by a huge expanse of ice sheet doesn't sell CAGW very well.

CAGW: Conning A Gullible World.

Game is up, boys and girls. You were trying to con humans with a functioning brain. Bad strategy!
