It is no longer global warming because it isn't.

It is climate change because it does.

Men are never so likely to settle a question rightly as when they discuss it freely.

— Thomas B. Macaulay (1800-1859), Essay on Southey's Colloquies

All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

There is no place like Nome

On November 9, 2011 the Christian Science Monitor reported that there was little ice in the Bering Sea this year and that it was due to global warming.

Just two weeks later the Bering Sea ice was above normal. This is due, no doubt, to the rapid removal of CO2 from the air around Nome by the early November storm. And look at it now.

In fact, the Sea Ice around Nome is so impeding that the residents were worried about getting enough fuel to see them through the winter.

The situation was becoming so dire that a Russian ice-breaking tanker, The Renda, will render fuel to Nome via a special exemption under the Homeland Security Act. That is, if it can make it through the thick ice in the ice free Arctic - the fastest warming place on earth. /sarc

The residents of Nome will now burn the fossil fuels delivered by the Russians to replenish the CO2 in the atmosphere so it will warm up enough by spring to begin melting the sea ice. I see how it works.

Will the city fathers of Nome order their winter fuel earlier next fall? Can't seem to count on that GW to keep the sea ice at bay.
