SLR 2016


Fears of rapid Sea Level Rise (SLR) remain fixed in some minds.


Below is a compendium of papers and articles addressing sea level rise in 2016. What is the latest? Is sea level rising at increasing rates? Is there any evidence of a rapid rise in our future?













The conclusion to be drawn from the above recent research is that the magnitude of SLR, if any,  is difficult to gauge but the measurements we have do not show an acceleration of SLR and in some studies falling sea level have been measured. This not sound like a problem worth worrying about and indeed oceanfront land values do not indicate a fear of encroaching seas a they are not falling to reflect an imminent danger. Likewise, hotels, resorts and airports continue to be built on low lying island archipelagos. Where SLR is concerned:
