A record temperature was set in Toronto
on Nov. 11, 2012 of 17.8C. Ah, global warming! The previous record was
set in 1938. The article does say that the heat will not accumulate and
keep the atmosphere overheated by dropping to -2C during the next week.
Is the CO2 moving on?
Sure that is how meteorologists will explain it.
Meanwhile, over in Alberta,
cold records were shattered on Nov. 11, 2012. Ah, global cooling? The
wonderful ability of heat trapping CO2 to forestall winter has been
demonstrated.
And they have the dirty tar sands.
Their CO2 is the kind that doesn’t trap heat while the CO2 in Toronto does trap heat.
Perhaps Alberta can export their CO2 to heatwave areas instead of exporting their oil.
Warm here, cold there; heat distribution not so rare.
Kinda takes the GLOBAL outta global warming, don’t it?

Where is Bill from?
We aren’t quite sure what planet Bill
is from or what planet Bill thinks he is visiting. It seems he comes
from a planet where the weather is controlled by CO2. In Bill’s World
CO2 has magical properties which allow it to trap heat and raise the
temperature of the planet and overheat the atmosphere to cause extreme
weather phenomena like hurricanes, drought, heat waves and melting
Arctic ice. Apparently, on his planet the appearance of these phenomena
all in one year are the harbinger of worse to come if we don’t reduce
the atmospheric concentration of CO2 to below 350 ppm. Bill has been
sent to warn us to repent before it is too late. He certainly knows how
to raise the alarm and fan the hysteria. Some people scare easy and are
ready to play follow the leader. Some of us recognize that Bill is not
from this planet because our memories have not been wiped clear of the
knowledge of past instances of the events that frighten Bill and his
followers. Hysteria identifies itself when it collides with reality.

Hurricanes are not pleasant but they have appeared before and sometimes have been far more deadly than contemporary occurrences. They have also been more frequent in the past. Modern ones may cause more property damage because there are more of us living in at risk areas than in times gone by.
The same is true of droughts and heat waves. The melting Arctic has been a concern of scientists back in the 1920s, 30s, 40s, 50s and into the 60s and 70s. It seems we have always been threatened with a deluge from melting glaciers and ice caps. Since the ‘experts’ on Arctic melting have been wrong for so long it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the experts still don’t know what they are talking about. Much about climate change on Earth remains a mystery.
But Bill comes from a world in which the inhabitants suffer from tunnel vision and can only see observations which support their narrative. They have a spiel and select events that can be spun to support it. In McKibbenland there is a consensus that CO2 is Satan and the oil companies are his servants.
Bertrand Russell knew about consensus: "The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd; indeed in view of the silliness of the majority of mankind, a widespread belief is more likely to be foolish than sensible.” h/t Greenie Watch
Bill is a man on a mission. He has claimed the moral high road without any doubt of both the righteousness and correctness of his beliefs. It is difficult for him to understand why others wouldn’t agree with his vision. Given the emotional investment that Bill has in trumpeting his hatred of oil companies, their profits, CO2 and the impending destruction of the Earth it will be impossible for him to entertain any doubts about cause. It is with certainty and conviction that he speaks. No possibility of error can be entertained and should CAGW turn out to be a false alarm as many of us know it to be no admission of error will be forthcoming. Like a flat earther Bill will continue to maintain that he is right just as Paul Ehrlich continues to think his prognostications of the past did in fact come true. But the UK still exists as it did in 1970. It did not disappear under ice in 2000. Trends change especially if they are cyclical. Predictions of disaster tend to fall by the wayside of human ignorance. New scares arise to replace the old ones. Some humans, it appears, like to frighten themselves. Perhaps this accounts for horror movies.
On Bill’s Planet - shall we call it Deimos - as CO2 concentration in its atmosphere rose so did the temperature. This had to be stopped or the Demons would have been roasted. Fortunately for us, Earth’s atmosphere does not work that way. Temperatures have been flat for the last 16 years even as our fossil fuel burning has continued unabated. NOAA even looked at the relationship and found no correlation with monthly variations in temperature and CO2 emissions. Phew! Human fricassee we won’t have to be.
In the Arctic region of Deimos CO2 caused it to warm faster than anywhere else on the planet and the sea ice melted in the summer. The Demons were worried that the polar ice cap would also melt and sea levels would rise and flood their coastal cities. So they reduced their CO2 emissions and saved the ice. Unlike Earth, Deimos also had the same problem at its South Polar region. Bill has been sent to warn us of that danger. When we understand where Bill has come from we can appreciate his hysteria over the issue. But the Earth is not Deimos.
Even though the Arctic sea ice melted to a record low this summer(2012) the region has apparently returned to its normal chilly self as evidenced by the cold air that the heat trapping CO2 molecules sent our way by pushing the jet stream down into West Virginia and Maryland. The below normal temperatures for early November that arrived with extra-tropical cyclone Sandy dropped snow in these areas and the ski season got an early start. The Arctic summer warmth dissipated as it always does. No heat accumulation. What was that about an overheated Arctic? This planet seems to vent its excess heat.
Bill was very concerned about the summer heat wave in the eastern US and the drought in the US Midwest and the effect that it had on corn prices. Since Bill is not from here perhaps he was unaware that our government has mandated that we mix ethanol (made from corn) into our gasoline. That’s right Bill. We grow food to burn in our vehicles. Whose bright idea was that? Must have been a politician from the corn belt. If we had diverted the corn into food perhaps the price of corn would not have undergone such a steep rise. Not to worry, Bill.
And Bill did you know that with all the record temperatures set in summer 2012 not one new State record was established? Does this suggest that it has been warmer in the past? See the 1930s.
Perhaps the weather event that had Bill most upset was the appearance of extra-tropical cyclone Sandy and the destruction it brought to New England at the New York and New Jersey coastlines. The storm surge was exacerbated by the full moon at high tide. The coastlines had not been prepared for such an occurrence. Should State governments be liable?
As unwelcome as extreme weather events are to people and as destructive as they are when they hit heavily populated areas most of us understand that they are acts of Nature and that they will continue to occur in the future as they have in the past. If they occur at lower levels of CO2 and at higher levels of CO2 then could the correct conclusion be that CO2 has nothing to do with their appearance? Hurricane frequency and energy have been on the decrease as have most other instances of nasty weather. Perhaps we owe CO2 an apology.
Bill doesn’t see the good news in the trends because his tunnel vision affliction only allows the passage of alarming news. This is a concern to those of us who are worried about Bill. We don’t like to see him so anxious. Perhaps his close friends can effect an intervention and take him to an AA - Apocalyptic Anxiety - meeting.

Why?
Because a former U.N. official says the next IPCC climate report will “scare the wits out of everyone”.
It is worse than we thought.
I am trembling in my boots.
The IPCC will finally have proof that CO2 is the devil?
I am terrified of an invisible trace gas essential to life on Earth.
And we are going to have more bad weather in the future.
The ice caps are melting, the seas are rising and the sky is falling.
And it is all our fault.
Forgive me IPCC for I have sinned.
There is no time to lose.
And they are going to drop it on us in late 2013 and early 2014.

And guess what?
They will need draconian new powers to fight this evil enemy of all humankind.

The POTUS Delusion
October 11, 2012
President Obama: “By the way, yes, my plan will reduce the carbon pollution that is eating our planet because climate change is not a hoax. More droughts and hurricanes and wildfires, that’s not a joke. That’s a threat to our children’s future, and we can do something about it.”
What is a joke is the ignorance of the POTUS concerning what the climate is doing. Should someone this ignorant be the POTUS?
Droughts are declining in the US.
Hurricanes are declining in the US and the world. The US has not been hit with a category 3 or higher hurricane in 7 years. Florida has not been hit by a hurricane in 7 years. This is the longest period of absence in the record. New England has not been hit by a MAJOR hurricane in 58 years.
Wildfires are also on the decline in the US.
How can the handlers of the POTUS allow him to make such ignorant remarks?
Does he really believe what he has been told by his advisors about the effect of increased CO2 on temperature? Reality is painting a different picture. Are they keeping that truth from him?
So, there is no threat to our children’s future. Except that the POTUS seems to think that humans know how to control the weather by reducing carbon pollution. Does he mean solid carbon or the gas carbon dioxide? And how does carbon eat our planet? What does that mean?
Change is what the climate does. No one disputes that. The dispute revolves around whether human induced carbon dioxide has anything to do with it. While demonizing carbon the POTUS forgets to mention that CO2 is a trace gas essential to life on Earth. Plants love it. Plants take it in and exhale oxygen which is something that humans are rather fond of. We benefit and they benefit. Win-win. More food and oxygen for us. What could be better than that for our children’s future? It sounds like a relationship that we should want to cultivate.
But no, the POTUS doesn’t like carbon. He thinks it is a pollutant. My skeptical radar is bleeping wildly. Something else is going on here.
Why would the POTUS champion a misanthropic policy that will interfere with a symbiotic relationship essential to life on earth? This makes no sense. Did bad weather not happen prior to the rapid increase in human induced CO2? Of course, we know the answer to that.
Does he really believe what he has been told by his advisors about the effect of increased CO2 on the climate? Whether he does or doesn’t it is reason enough for him to be voted out of office. Anyone who pursues such a misanthropic policy is committing a crime against humanity and must be stopped.
There are other agendas at work behind the scenes of the anti-CO2 brigade. Perhaps the following quotes will shed some light.
"In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill....All these dangers are caused by human intervention....and thus the “real enemy, then, is humanity itself....believe humanity requires a common motivation, namely a common adversary in order to realize world government. It does not matter if this common enemy is “a real one or….one invented for the purpose." ~ Club of Rome
World government.
“No matter if the science is all phony, there are collateral environmental benefits.... climate change [provides] the greatest chance to bring about justice and equality in the world.” ~ Christine Stewart, former Environment Minister , Canada
Justice and equality. Very admirable.
But it would appear that these opinions are willing to sacrifice the truth to attain these goals.
Phony science used to dupe the masses into supporting world government which will be used to achieve equality and justice. Do the ends justify the means? These people don’t even blink at the possibility. Is that not a crime against humanity?
If they are willing to lie to you to achieve their vaunted goals would you trust their definitions of equality and justice to be the same as yours?? Would you trust your wealth to a world government that lies to you to get its way.
Transparency is their enemy. They will hide from it. Secrecy is necessary to perpetuate lies.
CAGW is nothing to worry about.

The Goreacle
Over
at The Goreacle we have another opinion about what Superstorm Sandy means for the
future. Not surprisingly Al is warning us to convert to alternative
energy ASAP or face dire consequences. But then Al is known for his
alarmism. It has made him rich.
Scientists tell us that by continually dumping 90 million tons of global warming pollution into the atmosphere every single day, we are altering the environment in which all storms develop.
No they don’t. They tell us that CO2 has little to no effect on climate. Scientists tell us that low atmospheric CO2 content could be deadly for life. They tell us that CO2 is unrelated to extreme weather events. You won’t hear The Goreacle quoting that study on his Nov 14-15 snoreathon.
As the oceans and atmosphere continue to warm, storms are becoming more energetic and powerful.
No they are not. Severe storms are not increasing. Accumulated Cyclone Energy is below normal for this year.
Other climate-related catastrophes around the world have carried the same message to hundreds of millions.
Not snowstorms or tornadoes or windstorms or hurricanes
What is he talking about? Is he ignorant or deliberately lying? Is he living on the same planet?
As the hurricane approached the East Coast, it gathered strength from abnormally warm coastal waters.
No it didn’t. It went from a Category 1 hurricane to a tropical cyclone. Read the accounts, Al. Can he get anything right? Apparently not. Look at this.
At the same time, Sandy's storm surge was worsened by a century of sea level rise.
The surge was worsened by the high tides at the full moon. Both natural phenomenon last time I was in school. Isn’t the East coast still sinking after the last ice age in isostatic rebound?
Scientists tell us that if we do not reduce our emissions, these problems will only grow worse.
So Al, to what level should we reduce our emissions of CO2?
According to Roger Pielke, Jr.: In historical context, Sandy sits alongside Carol, Diane and Hazel. One big difference however -- Carol, Diane and Hazel hit the US Atlantic coast within a single 13 month period in 1954-1955. Imagine that.
Al seems to think we need to leave the oil, gas and coal in the ground so we don’t burn it and add CO2 to the atmosphere. Is the presumption that this will improve the climate?
Shall we reduce our CO2 levels to that of 1954-55? Would that be far enough into the past?
Should we go back to the levels of CO2 that were present in 1938 when the Long Island Express hurricane rolled through NYC? Lots of fires that year too(185,000). A lot fewer fires in 2012 so far.
Maybe we should reduce our CO2 concentrations to the levels present in 1900 when Galveston was flattened by a devastating hurricane. Lots of forest fires that year too.
Not back far enough? How about 1886 when the US was hit by 7 hurricanes - 2 of them of the major variety? CO2 levels were a lot lower back then. Oil refining was in its infancy.
Tell me again, Al. What year and level of CO2 did you have in mind when the weather was to your liking?

Hurricane Sandy is a disturbing sign of things to come. We must heed this warning and act quickly to solve the climate crisis. Dirty energy makes dirty weather.

Late breaking: more nonsense from Al on the Jennifer Granholm show. Now Al is claiming that hot temperatures "are now 100 times more common than they were just thirty years ago". Did he make that up? Even with all the record hot temperatures experienced in the US in the summer of 2012 no state highs were set. If temperatures are increasing so much how come the State highs are not being broken 100 times more frequently?
Hot air rises, Al. Try as you might even you can’t overheat the planet.
