It is no longer global warming because it isn't.

It is climate change because it does.

Men are never so likely to settle a question rightly as when they discuss it freely.

— Thomas B. Macaulay (1800-1859), Essay on Southey's Colloquies

All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

Beat the Drum at Mother Jones

MJ published that article back in 2012 which summarised a poll on climate change from Brookings. That poll found that personal experience is the most important reason for people’s believe in climate change. It is one thing to believe in climate change and quite another to think it is man made and it so important that something must be done about it. Here’s a famous quote from that article:

Conclusion: liberals need to stop nattering on about the latest research. It may gall us to do it, but anecdotal evidence (mild winters, big hurricanes, wildfires, etc.) is probably our best bet. We should milk it for everything it's worth.

So how has belief in climate change doing 2 years later after a couple of very cold winters.

And how has the anecdotal evidence been trending? What message does Mother Nature have for Mother Jones?

Is Kevin Drumm now aware of these trends?

Climate Change Scare

Dangerous man made climate change isn’t scaring anybody except the self deluded and those making a buck off of it.

Dangerous man made climate change has morphed into another religious cult complete with its own end times.

Chief of the Deniers

So how is that going so far?

If we ASSUME that all additions of CO2 to the atmosphere since the industrial revolution are due to humans then we have added 4.5 times as much CO2 to the air in the last 60 years compared to the previous sixty. Shouldn’t we be seeing the negative effects of this tinkering with Nature?

And poverty?

The world attained the first Millennium Development Goal target—to cut the 1990 poverty rate in half by 2015—five years ahead of schedule, in 2010.

This means that, in 2011, just over one billion people lived on less than $1.25 a day, compared with 1.91 billion in 1990, and 1.93 billion in 1981

As the World Bank declares “Despite this progress, the number of people living in extreme poverty remains unacceptably high.”

Agreed. More development is needed in certain areas of the world like India, China and Africa. Just as the rise in CO2 is associated with reductions in poverty and hunger so too is it associated with increases in longevity and standard of living.

We might want to conclude that increases in CO2 from industrial activity is a measure of human progress not danger.

Is Pachauri denying these improvements in human well being?

In the Hottest Year Ever

As CO2 continues to accumulate unabated in the air things are so much better...

Time to celebrate....

Are the dangerous man made global warming alarmists happy? Shouldn't they be?

Perhaps the good news on the climate should please them but maybe not these oddities and debacles.

Hakuna matata!

The State of the Climate December 2014

2014 is the hottest year ever according to the alarmists. Here is what our supercharged overheated CO2 laden atmosphere on steroids has been doing in December 2014.

How Do We Recognize a Cooling World?

If the growth of CO2 in our atmosphere due to the burning of fossil fuels is a cause of both a warming world and one in which snow storms are more severe and occur more frequently then how would we recognize a cooling world?

Would we expect cooler temperatures and fewer snowstorms?

The reason that CO2 is blamed for more snow is that CO2 is supposed to trap heat energy that adds to the total energy of the system and causes more evaporation. CO2 is said to cause more severe weather of every kind due to the increased energy content and water vapor present in the atmosphere.

This might appear to make some sense until you try to explain ice ages mini or huge.

If CO2 is the controller than does less energy in the system mean less severe weather including snow storms? Then from whence comes all the snow and ice in an ice age?

We need ‘cold’, an absence of heat, to make snow and ice. If that is true in a cooling world it must also be true in a warming world. So the warming world has to explain the dissipation of heat necessary for the formation of more snow and ice. If the heat must dissipate then how can a runaway global warming occur?

If the heat dissipates then CO2 is NOT trapping it! Trapped heat becomes the phantom of the atmosphere.

Warmists cannot have it both ways. They cannot have more snow and more heat in a warming world. In a warming world snow and ice must be replaced by more rain. As the world warms heat is distributed from the tropics to the poles. This will result in less snow and ice in the polar regions. This makes sense.

No one puts their water filled ice cube tray in a warming oven and expects ice cubes to form.

Some indicators of a cooling world from: Were there Signs of Cooling? Yes, There Were
“Were there signs of the cooling before it took place?
The answer to that question will be: Yes, there were. Here are some of them:
  • Steadily increasing Antarctic sea ice from 1979 to present
  • Cooling temperatures at the South Pole for the past 50 years
  • Increased winter snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere during the last decade
  • A dramatic increase in wintry weather in the UK during the past decade
  • Frozen water mains bursting in northern Michigan during the 2013-’14 winter
  • Snow in Baghdad
  • Snow in Cairo
  • The U.S. electric grid very nearly failing during winter 2013-’14 during the polar vortex
  • The Great Lakes being frozen more deeply and longer than ever recorded
  • A pause in global warming of 17 years, going on 18 years, according to NASA satellite measurement
  • And, finally, today’s earliest-ever snow in South Dakota
Do these constitute proof of global cooling as of September 11, 2014? Absolutely not”
As solar cycle 24(SC24) descends to its nadir over the next half dozen years and CO2 continues to rise unabated we may have our answer.

Doom, Despair, Agony on Me

People who fret over the future have no vision. They forget that humans have minds and like to use them to solve problems. With 7 billion of us and growing that is a lot of mind power to focus on the challenges we face. Our mission, should we choose to accept it, is to make sure those minds have nutritious food which may not be possible if we use arable land to make biofuels. When someone can convince me that humans will cease to think I will begin to worry about the future.

Resources are limited. They will run out. That means our civilisation is unsustainable.

Those brilliant observations come from minds that are limited. Good thing there are scientists, engineers, inventors and entrepreneurs to pick up their slack. There are movers and moaners. Movers are doers. Moaners are a drag. Let the moaners go play Survivor without Jeff Probst to bring reward.

Resources are limited. They will run out. That means our civilisation is unsustainable.

So we should do what? Be afraid and feel guilty? Waste those precious resources by implementing impractical policies to reduce our carbon footprint while simultaneously lining the pockets of crony socialists? Grow crops to burn in our vehicles? Capture ‘free’ wind power when the wind blows hard enough but not too hard? Capture the sun’s rays via ubiquitous solar panels when Old Sol is not hiding behind the clouds during the day? Intermittent power is the moaner’s solution. Higher food prices is the moaner’s solution. Higher energy prices is the moaner’s solution. Hardship pollution is the moaner’s solution. Let the moaners go play Survivor without Jeff Probst to bring reward.

Resources are limited. They will run out. That means our civilisation is unsustainable.

Therefore we must stop using fossil fuels which produce CO2 when they are burned. Heat trapping CO2 will turn the Earth into an oven. Besides we are going to run out of them. We must switch to renewable power at some point in the future anyway. Stop human emissions of CO2 to save the planet from catastrophic man made climate change.

The planet hasn’t warmed for 18+ years. CO2 has been at much higher concentrations in the atmosphere for most of the last 600 million years. There was no runaway global warming then why would there be now? CO2 is not the thermostat controlling the temperature of the Earth. Man made climate change is but a ruse in use by the totalitarians among us who want to control those limited resources for their own benefit. Totalitarians know best. To get your buy in they have to tell you it is for your benefit. But watch who is asked to make the great sacrifices needed to achieve THEIR goal. When do the rulers live like their slaves? Is the Great Leader of N Korea deprived of what western civilisation has to offer?

The goal is control and the totalitarians among us do not care how they get there. They feign omniscience and do not seek alternative views. Devil’s advocates are not welcome and are marginalised if they dare speak out against the ‘plan’. Control freaks are most comfortable when they know folks are following directions laid out by themselves. Control freaks freak out if they think there is somebody somewhere doing something without their consent. They mistakenly assume fairness on their part because they will ‘consult’ with others and then do what they want anyway because they can. Freedom without permission is not allowed. Under a totalitarian regime you are not a self-owner. They own you. You cannot dig a hole where you live because you may irreparably damage the habitat of the ‘isn’t he cute’ worm. They will tell you what you can and cannot do. Your carbon footprint will be allocated to you based on criteria set out by the ‘scientists’ whose salaries are paid by the State. Can we believe that your status in the eyes of the State will determine your carbon footprint?

What could go wrong? The scientists will calculate the footprints. What could be fairer than that?

Can you say Elysium?

Who will control the controllers?

Eventually, the resistance. Can you say Katniss Everdeen?

We should not let it get that far and reject the nonsense that is man made global warming due to the human emission of carbon dioxide. The plants love the stuff. CO2 is GREEN. And the planet is fine.

Instead of the doom and despair of the eco-freaks let’s remember the words of Louis Armstrong: What a Wonderful World it can be. Since Now We Are Free  let’s not lose it because humans work best in an environment of freedom. Who knows where the next great idea is going to come from? The control freaks don’t and it scares them.  Do people really think that there will be NO ADVANCES in nuclear technology in the future that could reduce or replace our current reliance on fossil fuels? We moved away from whale oil and beasts of burden when fossil fuels came along. We will make a similar substitution long before we have squeezed the last drop of oil and gas from the dead vegetation of the past. Explorers and discoverers can’t wait.

It’s My Life I’m Alive It’s a Beautiful Day I’m Walking On Sunshine  I Can See Clearly Now and I Feel Good. Rejoice in the freedom of the human mind which makes life sustainable.
