Weather Events Serve the Self-serving

Weather events, by which she means weather disasters that disturb people with death, injury and property loss, are in the opinion of Christiana Figueres of the UNFCCC, ‘experiential evidence of climate change’ and serve to remind us that “addressing climate change in a timely way, is not a partisan issue.“  

So weather events that we, as a species, have always faced as a risk of life, now serve to further the POGO delusion of climate change. She has to say this even if she doesn’t believe it or she is out of a job. Current weather must be different from the weather of the past or it is just weather. So bad weather of whatever kind must now be POGO weather as opposed to the Natural weather we experienced prior to the great human induced expansion of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Since Mother Nature stopped raising the global mean temperature over 16 years ago ‘weather events’ must serve as the flypaper for climate change. Since bad weather happens somewhere all the time there will be no shortage of ‘proof’ that we need to reduce our emissions of CO2 or tax it to make the big bad weather go away. This is totally delusional and CF knows it. It is a wonder she can speak like this with a straight face. Cue Donna Summer.

People have caught on Christina. You are being wilfully stupid in order to perpetuate your own job and that of your organization. Look out your window and see what climate change is doing today. Whatever is out there CO2 is responsible. There is nothing that can falsify that bit of religious nonsense. If CO2 is responsible for every kind of weather it is responsible for none. When climate scientists treat ordinary weather as unusual we have dropped down the rabbit hole to visit with ALice in Wonderland. We need a mechanism, a connection to prove a causal relationship not just a presence.

The IPCC in its AR5 report has dialed back its sensitivity of the climate to CO2. In order to protect their jobs they managed to keep that quiet and not advertise their happy finding. Politicians will not pay to study a non-crisis. Only the crony entrenched politicians will continue to trumpet the ‘grave’ state of the climate in order to be able to continue to feed their crony capitalist friends who are making out like bandits on the back of a delusion.

BS(Bad Science) can lead to expensive solutions that waste our scarce resources. Politicians don’t want to be associated with that kind of spending. It makes it hard to get re-elected if the populace believes you support delusions and have crony friends with benefits.

And so the delusion is stated more firmly as in BO’s 2014 SOTU. Looking straight at the camera and pointing his finger in a don’t challenge me attitude in a voice that reassures him if no one else he announced: climate change is a fact. The science is settled. The politically correct sound bite was sounded.

Fine. If you want Mother Nature to make a fool out of you she will oblige. Not only did she stop raising the global mean temperature over 16 years ago her delivery of extreme weather has been on a downtrend even as CO2 has continued to rise unabated in the atmosphere. Be a fool. Take refuge in denial.

The longer you remain in denial the sillier you will look as the gap between what is said and what is experienced continues to grow. Keep your mind and eyes close. At least then you will have a legitimate excuse for missing the biggest climate story of them all: CO2 has nothing to do with climate change. We owe CO2 an apology.

We can now determine the inaugural members of the National Institute for the Asinine.The Al Gores, John Kerrys, BOs, Sheldon Whitehouses, Christiana Figueres, James Hansens and Ban Ki Moons can continue to ignore Mother Nature and parrot the script of the CAGW meme while visiting with Alice in Wonderland but the rest of us have noticed that Mother Nature is not on their side and she is never wrong.

The planet is not in peril, the climate is not in crisis except in the delusional minds of the wilfully ignorant. May they one day recant and rejoin reality. Will they have the character?

This year has been the wettest spring in 141 years of weather record keeping, according to state of Iowa climatologist Harry Hillaker.

The Hawkeye State has been drenched with 16.65 inches of precipitation through Tuesday. That breaks the statewide record of 15.36 inches set in 1892.

Forecasters measure spring as March, April and May to create uniformity in record keeping. Traditionally spring begins with the spring equinox, which fell on March 20 this year, and ends with the summer solstice set for June 21.

Last year’s teachable moment was about drought. This year’s teachable moment is about the hydrological cycle. If warmth causes drought the evaporated water will eventually return to Earth. It does not stay aloft forever. It may not come down from where it arose but it will eventually precipitate.

Luckily for Iowa the water has returned shortly after it left to relieve the drought.

Somehow, Jerry Schnoor missed that teachable moment. Like Texas Governor Perry he could have predicted the return of the rains and be thought a weather guru. Did his AGW bias banish his understanding of the hydrological cycle from his mind?

Who decides if not Mother Nature?

If she is not sending MAJOR(cat 3,4,5) hurricanes our way to make landfall in the US for 8 years then she is not sending MAJOR hurricanes our way and the weather/climate can NOT be said to be getting more extreme, can it?. Why isn’t it that simple? (a similar exercise could be done for other extreme weather types)

Should we be afraid of that data or embrace it?

We have been told that:

The energy of 400,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs per day is how much energy imbalance the earth is absorbing because of global warming. This imbalance was explained by Dr. James Hansen, one of the world's foremost climate scientists at the TED Conference in Long Beach, California

We are told that we are ‘supercharging’ our atmosphere and putting it ‘on steroids’.

And yet despite this vast current energy imbalance the worst year for hurricanes making landfall in the US was 1886. You have the dataset. Check it out. Two of them were MAJORS. We all agree that it was colder then and that there was less than 300 ppm of CO2 in the atmosphere at that time. Does it ever make you wonder what the atmosphere was ‘on’ back in the day when that record occurred? And why wasn’t that record broken during the ‘hottest decade ever’ with the highest level of CO2 concentration seen in 3 million years? Could it be that CO2 is not as powerful a driver of climate as we have been led to believe? Certainly CO2 is being given ample opportunity to demonstrate the prowess of its heat trapping superpowers and instead of warming winters we get a visit from the polar vortex from the rapidly melting Arctic. Is there a hole in the CO2 blanket?

A similar exercise could be done for other examples of extreme weather/climate.

The IPCC says, in their AR5 SPM, that they are 95% (a change from 90% in AR4 2007) certain that humans are at fault for contemporary global warming/climate change even as they reduce the lower bound of their estimated range for climate sensitivity (CS) to 1.5C from the 2.0C they used in their AR4 2007 report while leaving the upper bound stuck at 4C. That means the range has widened in AR5 which means that they are less certain of the results they present in AR5. Can we all share a chuckle at how less certain has become more certain? And why did they do that? If they didn’t say they were 95% certain they would almost certainly (95%?) be signing their own pink slips. Imagine if they actually said what they meant or meant what they said and informed the world that they are less certain of their results now than they were in 2007. After billions and billions were spent on their climate models. The IPCC is the new magic act on the world stage. Now you see less certain and now you don’t. Voila! Apparently 1984 has arrived at the IPCC. Less certain is more certain. They actually mean to say that they are more certain they are less certain. Clear?

Here is a list of some recent research into climate sensitivity some of which occurred after the AR5 cutoff date. The 1.5C mentioned above may turn out to be too high according to reality. Do we have to wait another 6 years for the IPCC to revise their estimates downward again?

And what of the climate models? They operate on algorithms that produce warming as CO2 increases. Only problem is someone forgot to inform Mother Nature about the algorithm and she slipped them a curve which the models failed to anticipate and they fell off the catwalk. Billions and billions for models that don’t work. Can we all share a wince or a Bart Simpson Doh! over that one?

Has the starring role accorded to CO2 in the climate drama been miscast such that CO2 would be better placed in a bit part or perhaps not be included in the cast at all?

What to do? Disband the IPCC and stop all the unnecessary efforts to reduce human CO2 emissions. It was all based on a false theory.

We owe CO2 an apology.

Science Says!

Defenders of the CAGW hypothesis have regularly tried to claim the realm of Science as their own as they try to convince the world’s leaders of the urgency of the climate change problem.

Let us borrow the chutzpah and a modified version of the famous Family Feud phrase from the TV program of the same name and see what the Science Says!

CAGW says: and the global climate models predict that temperatures will rise catastrophically as CO2 rises and therefore humans need to leave fossil fuel based energy sources for renewable energy sources.

Science Says!: Reality is not cooperating with this theory as temperatures have not continued to rise as CO2 emissions have. This contradicts the theory which now must be modified or abandoned.

CAGW says: that severe weather will increase as emissions of CO2 continue to increase. Al Gore has been trying to blame every instance of bad weather over the recent past on human addiction to fossil fuel use and the human CO2 additions to the atmosphere which have continued to increase.

Science Says!: it isn't so. The trend in severe weather over the last 30 years is clearly on the decrease. Can we conclude the additional CO2 in the atmosphere leads to fewer instances of bad weather? The US has not been hit by a major hurricane(cat 3,4,5) in the last 8 years - the longest period of absence on record. This does not sound like an increase does it?

Science Says!: CO2 has other beneficial effects. Plants love the stuff and show their gratitude by slipping us a continuous supply of oxygen of which we have become rather fond. It is an amiable symbiotic relationship which should not be interrupted but encouraged.

The two major and press popular tenets of the CAGW theory have been disproven. And that is all we need to discount the CAGW theory as bunkum.

In the face of this evidence to continue to believe that humans are in control of the climate system of our planet is to be enveloped in delusion. The elite believers in human depravity, that humans must be destroying the planet because that is what we do are selling snake oil - one invented for the purpose.

And they won’t stop. There is money to be made and power to be gained in scaremongering. If they can invent one for the purpose they can invent another one for the purpose.

To paraphrase Arnold S. - they’ll be back!

The Winter of 2013-14

NOAA issued its forecast for this winter in November 2013. They said to expect warmer than normal temps over much of CONUS. The venerable Farmer’s Almanac warned of a chilly winter. The FA crystal ball returned an accurate prediction while that of NOAA is in the shop for repair.

Over in the UK their meteorological agency, The MET, forecast a dry winter. The UK has been under water with the worst floods since 1929-30. Apparently, the government Environment Agency was warned that a disaster loomed if heavy rains were received and did nothing about it. The reduction of Arctic sea ice was blamed for the anticipated drier, colder winters. In 2011 UK households were warned about water restrictions due to the anticipated drought.  Does the MET have a warming bias in its forecasting model? Or were the floods deliberately allowed to happen?

Moral of the story: just because you have a super expensive supercomputer doesn’t mean the results coming out will be useful to people. The forecast will reflect the value of the theory embedded in the computer code. In the case of NOAA and the MET much reprogramming seems warranted. Mother Nature has issued a recall on their crystal ball.

The Models Have Fallen Off the Runway

Mother Nature stopped raising the global mean temperature 16+ years ago. The global climate models that the IPCC relies upon for its peek into the future did not produce such a scenario. Extending a trend is easy. Only the genius can predict the bend in the trend. Mother Nature inserted a curve into the runway and the models fell off the catwalk laying in tears at the tears in their computer code.

Time for new models and time for scientists to ‘man up’ and admit the failure of the models which means a concomitant admission that they have no idea where the climate is going.

At least that is an honest description of the current state of chaos in climatology.

Arrhenius said  that CO2 would heat the atmosphere and climates would change. We would farm again in Greenland.

And so a theory was formed, inputs recognized, algorithms developed and climate models constructed to simulate the future of climate change. Mother Nature has now invalidated our attempts to cast CO2 in the lead role of the computer models. Recent evidence, as has been recognized in the IPCC’s AR5 SPM, leads to a lower estimate of climate sensitivity. CO2 has been relegated to a bit part in the climate drama. Other factors(natural) have overwhelmed the expected prowess of CO2 to trap heat and stopped the rise of temperatures for the last 17 years. We seek a new ‘star’ for the lead role in our climate story. Perhaps the one that rises in the east and sets in the west could fulfil that role.

IT is an undeniable and incontrovertible truth that Mother Nature has repudiated the POGO  theory of CAGW. It is time for all good humans to come to the aid of their science and officially recognize these results. Acknowledging one’s errors is never a pleasant undertaking and may be quite embarrassing for the august societies that have championed the disproven theory of human induced global warming. ‘Climate change is happening and we are at fault’ is no longer a tenable proposition. We know that climate changes continuously. The ‘why’ is still a matter of conjecture. Our inability to create ‘scenarios’ that mirror reality is a dead giveaway to our ignorance of the mechanisms that drive climate change. It undermines our understanding and our confidence in the direction that climate change will take in the future. Proven defective, our crystal ball has experienced a recall by Mother Nature.

The last august body to revise its official position of support for CAGW will attract the most shame. Scientific bodies which DENY reality are an embarrassment not only to themselves and to science but to the more rational scientists who comprise its membership.

Who will be first among them to repudiate their allegiance to the POGO theory of climate change and admit that they were part of the greatest scientific lapse of judgement in human history and the victims of the likes of James Hansen and Timothy Wirth? Step right up. Don’t be shy. Don’t let it become even more humiliating by permitting an even wider gap between your adherence to an invalidated POGO theory and the observational instrumental data plotted on graphs that even the least educated individual will be able to ridicule.

Do science a favor. Renew your dedication to reality as your guiding principle swearing to uphold the principle that you will go where the data takes you and not modify the data to make it conform to your preconceived notions. The practises of the 1984 Ministry of Truth have no place in science. Mother Nature will not be denied.

We have met POGO and he is not us.

We can go back to burning fossil fuels without fear or guilt. Incandescent bulbs and plastic bags can be sold again. We can use more than one sheet to wipe ourselves which, no doubt, we were doing out of a sense of reverence to the environment. We can use coal, oil and gas to generate the electricity we all depend on and we can look forward to the provision of this wonderful human resource to the impoverished of the world which will allow them to raise their standard of living so that they too may enjoy the benefits of modern living. CO2, rather than being demonized, can reclaim its rightful place as an invisible, trace gas in the atmosphere essential to life on Earth. There is a rumour that our fruits and veggies adore the stuff.

Let us put asunder this insane episode of Apocalyptic Anxiety. No wonder the skeptic blogs are more fun to read: the news is so much better. And they turned out to be ‘spot on’ as well.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighbourhood. The truth has come out as we knew it would.

CAGW is a Massive Con

CAGW is a massive con to redirect wealth from the poor to the rich. Guess who is in favor of that agenda? If the ruling elite can make you think your sacrifices(personal freedom and wealth) will benefit a planet in peril they will gain your complicity in their plan without firing a shot. Very clever.  Enlist the support of the fleeced through fear and guilt. The people sacrifice for the benefit of the ruling elite. Isn’t it always the way? Don’t get rich by providing something that your fellow humans value. Trick them out of their wealth via lies, fear and guilt. Then, when the problem doesn’t make an appearance(because there was never a crisis), claim that your legislation has solved the non-existent problem. Cue ruling elite laughter all the way to the bank.
