Good grief, Bette. Like that has never happened before. It has been as high as 70F in December in NYC as recently as 1982 when CO2 was lower than now. In 1984 it was 67F as late as December 29 in NYC. 63F does not seem to be outside the bounds of natural variability for the UHI of NYC. It hit 70F on January 26, 1950. It has been over 70 several times in February in NYC. Why the surprise? Where’s the need for panic? It may be rare but the weather is variable, changing all the time. One day does not a trend make.
“The city's temperatures typically rise into the 60s for a day or two in each of the winter months.”
