How Do We Know the Climate is Changing?

Ontario's wild turkeys, sometimes seen feeding on farmers' fields or gracing dinner tables, are on the trot thanks to climate change.

And therefore we need to reduce our carbon dioxide(CO2) emissions?

Why?

The built-in assumption is that human emissions of CO2 are driving climate change.

Where’s the proof for that assumption?

CO2 is going up.

So?

Do scientists go where the data leads?

Between 1920-1944 CO2 went up        7.4 ppm.

Between 1920-1944 GMT went up        .43C           

Between 1991-2015 CO2 went up         46.5 ppm

Between 1991-2015 GMT went up        ?

GMT - Global Mean Temperature

How much should ‘?’ be to convince you that CO2 drives climate and we are in deep doo-doo?

IF CO2 drives temperature is it reasonable to assume the relationship is linear?

Can we divide the temperature by the rise in CO2 to establish the heating power of 1 ppm of CO2?

.43/7.4 = .06C/ppm

Can we then multiply that result by the ppm rise in the last 25 years to give us the value of ‘?’

.06C/ppm X 46.5ppm = ?

And if the measured temperature rise is less than that what would you conclude?

CO2 does not drive temperature.

Or

CO2 drives temperature in a non-linear manner.

What manner would that be?

Something like a drug addict who needs a higher dose to get the same ‘high’?

DO we need more and more CO2 in the air to get the same temperature rise as in the past?  

Is there then a limit to the temperature rise that CO2 can cause?

Some scientists think that that is the case.

Are we there yet?       What is that limit?

Is it relevant to ask if the planet has been that warm in the past?

If it has, does that not imply that there is no tipping point because there was no runaway global warming in the past at higher levels of CO2? Hello, we are here.

So what do scientists say about the Earth’s temperature in the past? Has it been much warmer than now when CO2 was at pre-industrial levels (280 ppm)?

YES

Can you see why some scientists don’t think CO2 drives temperature at all.

Can you see a relationship for the last 600 million years?

So what is ‘?’

Linear = 2.7C (.06C/ppm X 46.5ppm)

Measured = .45C

Is it fair to conclude that CO2 does NOT drive climate change?

July was Earth’s hottest month ever recorded

The temperature in July, when averaged for all locations around the planet, was 61.86 degrees, topping the previous hottest months of July 1998 and July 2010.

Hottest July in 4000 years? Not even the hottest July since *2014* according to satellites

According to NOAA 1998 was even warmer than 1997.

How can July 2015 be the hottest month ever recorded if the AVERAGE of 1997 was warmer than the hottest month evah?

Is the Missing Heat Really Missing?

The Global Climate Models in use by the UN IPCC predict a warmer world at this time in our history than we are currently experiencing. There have been many explanations for this result.

Some have speculated that the missing heat went into the deep oceans and set off to look there. A new paper published in Nature Climate Change has discredited that idea. NASA reports that the deep ocean hasn’t warmed since 2005.

We know that the missing heat is not in the atmosphere either because it has not warmed in at least 18 years.

Have people been looking in the wrong place? Has the heat done an about face and escaped to outer space?

Ahh, so the missing heat isn’t missing at all. It has gone off into space as it always has. As the world warms it sheds the excess input energy back from whence it came. At most, GreenHouse Gases may delay the exit somewhat but we are not all going to die. It does not trap the heat indefinitely if at all. Like angry warmists the atmosphere vents.

Looking back at the history of CO2 in our atmosphere as best we have been able to discern it we know CO2 has been as high as 8000 ppm in the atmosphere within the last 600 million years. We are here so there was no tipping point upon which the planet became unbearable for life. As has always been the case climate problems are local not global. There is no global warming. Hot here, cold there. Heat distribution not so rare.

There has been no climate crisis except in the minds of some who had an agenda and thought they could generate enough fear and guilt in the population to allow them to gain control of the world’s resources in order to impose their preferred economic system(socialism) and replace capitalism which has raised the standard of living of so many for so long.

If the planet is in danger they thought they could lead people to give up their freedoms in order to save the Earth. Everyone wants to save the planet. It is a good cause. How could anyone say no? Except that the planet isn’t in any danger of overheating like a car engine with a compromised radiator. That scenario was all in the assumptions of the computer models which, after billions of taxpayer dollars have failed to simulate Mother Nature and therefore have proved nothing but their uselessness and the human pretension to omniscience.

The climate ‘crisis’ in our own minds is over and it is time to redirect resources to where they can do more good solving actual human problems rather than be expended for no return. Poverty, disease, potable water and bringing electricity to those who do not yet have it await our attention. So much could already have been done without the insane detour down the rabbit hole to visit Alice in Wonderland that man made climate change insisted was necessary.

How and where to reduce emissions

SCIENCE tells us that the current concentration of CO2  in our atmosphere is 400 parts per million (ppm). SCIENCE tells us that over the last 600 million years CO2 has nested in our atmosphere in concentrations 10 to 20 times our contemporary 400 ppm. There was NO TIPPING POINT, NO RUNAWAY GLOBAL WARMING. We are here. This fact alone ought to quell the fears of a CO2 guided apocalypse. CO2 had its opportunity over many millions of years to trap heat and toast our planet but took a pass. Did CO2 fail its climate driving test?

SCIENCE tells us that there were many periods in pre-industrial times when temperatures exceeded or equalled those we experience today. Over the last 400,000 years three of the last 4 interglacials, the Holocene Climate Optimum, the Minoan Warm Period, The Roman Warm Period and the Medieval Warm Period all experienced warmth equal to or greater than our own. Since we are told by climate gurus like Al Gore that pre-industrial CO2 levels remained stable for 800,000 years those periods of warmth could not have been a result of changes in CO2 concentration. Does this not imply that the climate changes independently of the amount of CO2 in the air? Does this make Mother Nature a Man Made Climate Change DENIER?

In a 2013 interview in USA Today a NOAA spokesperson said the following.

The last time the worldwide carbon level probably hit 400 ppm was about 2 million years ago, said Pieter Tans of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

That was during the Pleistocene Era. "It was much warmer than it is today," Tans said. "There were forests in Greenland. Sea level was higher, between 33 to 66 feet."

Would it be impertinent to ask why it isn’t that warm now that we have reached the auspicious milestone of 400 ppm in our air? Why aren’t sea levels 33 to 66 feet higher now like they were 2 million years ago?  Has CO2 lost its MoJo or does it suggest that CO2 has nothing to do with either temperature or sea level rise?

It is not for me know how your mind works but mine concludes that CO2 is NOT the thermostat controlling the climate of the Earth. In which case why would you want to reduce the CO2 concentration in our atmosphere, especially when our planet has been GREENING because of it? CO2 is GREEN. Isn’t that GOOD NEWS? Don’t you want a GREEN planet?

It is widely promulgated and believed that human-caused global warming comes with increases in both the intensity and frequency of extreme weather events. A survey of official weather sites and the scientific literature provides strong evidence that the first half of the 20th century had more extreme weather than the second half, when anthropogenic global warming is claimed to have been mainly responsible for observed climate change. The disconnect between real-world historical data on the 100 years’ time scale and the current predictions provides a real conundrum when any engineer tries to make a professional assessment of the real future value of any infrastructure project which aims to mitigate or adapt to climate change. What is the appropriate basis on which to make judgements when theory and data are in such disagreement?

Quantitative analyses of actual measurements rather than modeling have shown that “global warming” has been heterogeneous over the surface of the planet and temporally non-linear. Residual regression analyses by Soares (2010) indicated increments of increased temperature precede increments of CO2 increase. The remarkably strong negative correlation (r = −0.99) between the earth’s magnetic dipole moment values and global CO2-temperature indicators over the last ~30 years is sufficient to be considered causal if contributing energies were within the same order of magnitude. Quantitative convergence between the energies lost by the diminishing averaged geo- magnetic field strength and energies gained within the ocean-atmosphere interface satisfy the measured values for increased global temperature and CO2 release from sea water. The pivotal variable is the optimal temporal unit employed to estimate the total energies available for physical-chemical reactions. The positive drift in averaged amplitude of geomagnetic activity over the last 100 years augmented this process. Contributions from annual CO2 from volcanism and shifts in averaged geomagnetic activity, lagged years before the measured global temperature-CO2 values, are moderating variables for smaller amplitude perturbations. These results indicated that the increase in CO2 and global temperatures are primarily caused by major geophysical factors, particularly the diminishing total geomagnetic field strength and increased geomagnetic activity, but not by human activities. Strategies for adapting to climate change because of these powerful variables may differ from those that assume exclusive anthropomorphic causes.

While Canada follows a short sighted policy of closing its coal plants those who recognize a scam when they see it continue to build coal power plants as a pathway to riches for their people.
