Obama: ‘I will lead the world in a coordinated assault on a changing climate’

Has a more naive statement ever been issued by a POTUS? This man’s ignorance is astounding.

Obama is having delusions of grandeur and thinks he knows how to control the climate. He may be able to end cheap energy but only Mother Nature controls the climate of the Earth. Obama believes that man made climate change is real and has no time for those who disagree.

So off he goes to spend untold trillions in the pursuit of a phantom of the atmosphere at the end of which he will present the bill to the future generations he pretends to care about. Is it a diversion from more pressing matters? This has lead Jay Leno to joke that the POTUS believes global warming is getting a lot worse because “he is sweating a lot more during his second term”. Think Benghazi, IRS, and NSA scandals.

Errors of the POTUS:

Temperatures are rising and CO2 is to blame.

Extreme weather is getting worse. No, it isn’t.

Renewable energy is the way of the future. Pity the birds.

Cites 97% of climate scientists agree that the climate is changing and humans are responsible. Fails to note that some warmists have become skeptics. Select facts of support. Keep head buried in sand when cognitive dissonance emerges.

This man’s ignorance does not inspire confidence in his leadership. He is putting holes in the democratic ship of state which will sink in 2014. Since the governments of Russia, China and India will not penalize their citizens for their CO2 emissions the POTUS will punish his citizens for their CO2 sins. And Americans don’t see AGW as a big problem. But let’s punish them anyway.  Americans think the economy and jobs are the number one concern. Climate change is 21st and dead last on their list of concerns. Obama rates climate change as the most important issue facing Americans and will make the number one choice of his citizens worse by making their 21st choice more expensive. But he doesn’t have to face them again, does he? He will focus on rewarding his crony capitalist friends with green contracts and loans.

Some members of his own party are appalled at his war on alleged man made climate change. Republicans vow to fight any regulations as do business groups. He has made a contentious issue even more contentious as Mother Nature has morphed into a cooling phase.

He is afraid of the truth so he calls those who disagree with him: flat earthers. As with many accusations there are 3 fingers pointing back at him. To deny the developing trend toward cooling in the atmosphere is to keep one’s head buried in the sand. To deny that extreme weather was worse in the past is to be down the rabbit hole visiting Alice in Wonderland. The truth is tough to see when your eyes are closed or they are open in a dark place.

Mother Nature must be a flat earther with her head in the sand because her behaviour does not support the climate alarmist thesis that increasing human induced CO2 concentration in the atmosphere is reeking havoc with the climate. Apparently, flat earthers also believe in manmade climate change. Mother Nature is so furious with climate alarmists that she has sent no hurricanes to Florida in over seven years to try and clue them in to reality. Mother Nature is so annoyed with climate alarmists that she has sent no cat 3+ hurricanes to the US mainland for over seven years to help them understand. She has left a large clue in the history books that many previous presidents have had to deal with far more hurricanes than the 3 Obama has experienced during his first term. Mother Nature has steadfastly refused to break the world record for maximum temperature for nearly 100 years and has not shown any warming for over 17 years. She has kept sea level rise (SLR) to a slow and steady increase which indicates that whatever snow and ice from the polar regions of the planet are finding their way into the sea are being replaced at almost the same rate. There is no sea level acceleration taking place anywhere in the world. Mother Nature increased the sea ice surrounding Antarctica above the long term mean and has kept it there for well over a year. Recently, the Arctic sea ice which reached a record low in 2012 has returned to the long term mean in the spring of 2013. She followed a very warm spring/summer (2012) with a very cold and snowy winter/spring (2012-2013) to demonstrate beyond a shadow of a doubt that CO2 does NOT trap heat. Seasons still rule! She continues to leave clues for climate alarmists that they refuse to acknowledge. And they think SHE has her head in the sand! Blame it on CO2 is not a theory that will fly.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighbourhood. The truth came out as we knew it would.

We owe CO2 an apology. Contrary to official government belief CO2 is not a pollutant.

CO2, a trace gas essential to life on Earth, is plant food. We exhale CO2 and help to feed the flora. In return they slip us oxygen of which we are rather fond in a mutually beneficial and amicable symbiotic relationship.

Bonus: plants grow better, stronger, faster because of the increasing concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Apart from that CO2 has no redeeming features

We need to stop all activities aimed at decreasing human emissions of CO2.

CO2 is green. We need more of it not less. CO2 has been exhaled during the creation of this post. No living thing was harmed. Some even liked it. Let the plants dance.

The EPA’s ruling that CO2 ‘endangers health and welfare’ itself endangers health and welfare. CO2 is a trace gas essential to life on Earth. Demonizing it will maintain poverty in underdeveloped nations as well as lower the living standards of people in developed countries. It is a ruling that will set us on a path that can do nothing but harm to the health, wealth and comfort of humans. The elite will rationalize their continued use of fossil fuels as essential to the survival of the nation. They will relieve their guilt about fossil fuel use by curtailing your use of it. Since you use less, less is used so the usage of the 1% will be miniscule in comparison to the savings from your impoverishment. You are sacrificed on the altar of elitist guilt. They must oversee your sacrifice for the good of the nation.

Your wealth for their comfort. And they will call you names if you don’t agree!

Neither Al Qaeda, the Taliban or the middle east regimes need to mount an attack against the US to destroy it. That is being done internally by Obamabumble. Get a man to act on a stupid belief and resources will be expended on a non-problem and that can only weaken a giant.

Shaman Scientists

The modern shaman is the scientist who pretends to have a crystal ball and uses his imaginary implement to make alarmist  predictions about the future state of the world. They try to take advantage of the respect that their scientific credentials confer upon them. The shaman does a disservice to both his credibility and the prestige of science in the public’s mind when his crystal ball later proves defective.

Empirical evidence does not lend much support to the notion that climate is headed precipitately toward more extreme heat and drought. The drought of 1999 covered a smaller area than the 1988 drought, when the Mississippi almost dried up. Shamans have been present in every age. In times gone by when knowledge could be gleaned about nature and because of a lack of connection between people it was easier for a person to pass himself off as someone who had special knowledge because he did have special knowledge about a few things. People would then defer to him in other matters of importance to them and assume that the shaman must have some insight that they could not possess because they did not have the special powers of the shaman.

In the past special knowledge conferred respect and deference.

As human knowledge grew and the population became more educated it was more difficult to play the role of the shaman because people became aware of the charlatan. Skepticism accompanied those who claimed special knowledge.

But as human knowledge grew so did the specialisation of human knowledge so that it was more difficult to be an expert in more than one area of human inquiry. People in one area of science would not necessarily know what other scientists had learned about our universe. A new class of expert grew who were consulted by those who were in charge of government. While conferring many benefits this specialisation of knowledge also presented difficulties for political leaders who needed to consult with these experts. The experts became de facto shamans who could direct policy because they had the knowledge and knowledge is power.

President Eisenhower in his exit speech recognized the inherent danger of this new class of shaman:

“Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.”

And the experts have often been wrong about the future. We need to bear this in mind while constructing policy for the future.

Cue climate science. The weather/climate is a non-linear and chaotic system which makes it very difficult to predict its direction. We should be even more skeptical of the crystal ball used to predict  future climate because of this fickleness. Who knows where it goes?

There are many climate scientists who are predicting disaster in our future if we don’t reduce our emissions of CO2 into the atmosphere which they regard as a stimulus to positive climate feedbacks that will cause CAGW. Like witches in the past CO2 has become the modern demon of bad weather. In the case of climate science we have a ready check on the predictions that are made by climate scientists. We can consult with Mother Nature and see if she agrees with their assessments.

For example it is relatively easy for the layperson to determine if extreme weather is getting worse as CO2 increases in the atmosphere. All we have to know how to do is count. How many hurricanes in the past? How many now? If there are fewer now or the trend is not up then the extreme weather prediction is wrong for hurricanes. Repeat for floods, drought, tornadoes, forest fires and any other type of ‘weather’ you can quantify. Check the trend.

If bad weather happened in the past when CO2 was at a lower concentration in the air than it is now then it lends credence to the view that CO2 has nothing to do with it.

If you predict a temperature increase in the atmosphere as CO2 increases in the atmosphere and it doesn’t happen then the theory is invalidated and science says: modify or abandon the theory because as it stands the theory is wrong.

If the theory predicts that sea level rise will accelerate as CO2 increases in the atmosphere go and measure it over time and see what the trend becomes. It there is no rise or it remains steady then the theory is wrong. Check with Mother Nature. She will tell you if the experts know what they are talking about.

Using Mother Nature to detect climate change snake oil salesmen becomes an easy pastime for even the unschooled in atmospheric physics. We do not have to fear our ignorance of climate science. We just have to trust our sixth sense - common. It does not matter what the Phd backed climate models have to say. It only matters what Mother Nature has to say and her currency is common sense.  A Phd does not come with a direct line to the truth or with a guarantee of infallibility. Although perhaps it shouldn’t be granted without a sense of humility.

Baseball players dump gatorade or whipped cream pies on the head of the player who wins the game with a walk off hit so that their success does not inflate their ego. They are reminded that they are just one of the team. Perhaps we should dump gatorade on our Phds when they are conferred.

100 Year Anniversary of the Hottest Temperature Ever

On July 10, 1913 at Greenland Ranch in California the temperature reached the highest ever recorded since thermometers have been used. CO2 was about 300 ppm. Ironically, 1913 turned out to be a very cold year.

NOAA plans to celebrate the record. Will they so recognize the record cold temperature at Prospect Creek, Alaska?

Questions for NOAA and NPS Death Valley that have gone unanswered related to the 100 year celebration of the ‘hottest ever temperature’

If CO2 is so good at trapping heat and we have been putting copious amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere one can be excused for wondering why this record max temp is still standing?

CO2 recently crossed the 400 ppm milestone without fanfare or disaster. And this during the coldest spring in the US since 1924.

Today was July 10, 2013 and the recorded high for Death Valley was 114F which leaves the world record of 134F still intact. Can we conclude that over the last 100 years that there has been a cooling in Death Valley despite the rise of 100 ppm concentration of CO2 in the air?

While there were many triple digit temperatures recorded during the drought and heatwave of 2012 in the US the world record of max temp of 134F still survived. And this momentous heat wave which drove the hysteria of the MSM last year, a sure sign of AGW, was followed by a cold and snowy winter. CO2 refused to trap the summer heat for the winter. What good is it?

Are they unaware or are they ignoring the fact that the US has not been hit by a category 3 or greater hurricane in over seven years?

Are they unaware or are they ignoring the fact that the frequency of tornadoes in the US is in a lull?

Are they unaware or are they ignoring the fact that the official temperature datasets used to measure the global temperature do not show an increase in the last 17 years? All global climate models(GCMs) overestimate the temperature as judged against reality. GCMs attribute a greater climate sensitivity to CO2 than is evident in Nature.

Are they unaware or are they ignoring the fact that the frequency of forest fires has been decreasing since the 1970s? The 2013 fire season is off to its slowest start in recorded history. And that is a good thing.

Are they unaware or are they ignoring the fact that the Arctic has more ice this year than last at this time?

Are they unaware or are they ignoring the fact that temperatures in the Arctic have been below normal for the last three months (Apr-Jun 2013).

If the Arctic ice is melting why has the US just epnt $55M to refurbish one of its ice breakers? It hopes to get another 10 years out of the ship.

Are they unaware or are they ignoring the fact that Antarctic sea ice has been above the mean for well over a year?

Are they unaware or are they ignoring the fact that ‘storminess’ has not increased in the US since 1900.

Are they unaware or are they ignoring the fact that sea level rise has been revised downward for the year 2100 to 7 inches not the 15 or 20 feet forecast by the ‘models’.

Where is the crisis? It is imaginary and purely political. Pogo Politics.

It seems that all is normal and that 97% of the alarmist predictions are bogus. Ironically, Mother Nature is an AGW denier.

As human emissions of CO2 continue to rise extreme weather is supposed to become more frequent and severe. The IPCC Srex report disagrees.

Mother Nature must have missed the memo because the exact opposite is happening.

Here are reports of decreasing trends in:

4. Floods
5. Forest fires
6. Precipitation

9. Deaths due to extreme weather

Interestingly, as CO2 has increased in the atmosphere the failure of green policies has continued to rise as well.

I am sorry that some people have become paranoid over a trace gas in the air that is essential to life on Earth. But that fear does not require us to destroy our standard of living in pursuit of a Phantom of the Atmosphere: trapped heat.

Remember the drought and heatwave of 2012? That was followed by a cold, snowy winter/spring. How come CO2 didn’t trap some of that heat to make a warmer than normal winter/spring? Where did all that summer heat go? Do doo do doo

There is nothing new under the sun. It is just weather. Let the fear in you subside. No need to feel guilty about running the A/C or driving the SUV.

Al is upset with the MSM because they are not sounding the alarm for our climate that is “rapidly changing and threatening the future of our civilization”.

Perhaps that is because Al’s fears are not being realized in reality and the MSM has finally clued in to that fact.  

Al has been yanking our chain and stoking our fears for years. Relax. Take a chill pill. It is unfortunate  that bad weather scares you but please stop visiting your fears upon the rest of us. It is just weather. We have seen it all before. Our ancestors have experienced far worse. Let the fear in you subside.

The world record for highest temperature(134F) ever recorded on Earth was set on July 10, 1913. Despite the increase in CO2 concentration to 400 ppm this year that record still stands. That is an inconvenient truth that you won’t hear from Al Gore or the MSM. Gore’s myopic mind suffers from confirmation bias. The whole story he does not want to be told. Only his side. His dedication to fairness and the truth reaches ‘Nobel’ notoriety

He thinks the world’s weather is getting ‘dirtier’. But will he tell you about the 7 year absence of hurricanes in Florida? People in Florida can be excused for thinking their weather is getting better. Will he see that you are informed about the dearth of major (cat 3+) hurricanes hitting the US mainland in the last 7 years? Will he point out that presidents in the late 1800s faced many more hurricanes than Obama (3)? Al loves an apocalypse and laments that scientists won’t allow him to connect tornadoes to AGW. Will he report on the decrease in frequency of major tornadoes since the 1970s? Will he keep you up to date on the latest sea level rise research which suggests at most a 7 inch increase by 2100 not the 20 feet that Al expected? Temperatures have been flat for the last 17 years and decreasing for the last decade. Al does not lead off his talks with this information. It is MIA.
